Accidents and mistakes you've made with your knife

I dropped (slipped out of my hand) my leek on my bed and as I reached down to grab it it bounced tip up and I stabbed myself in the arm. :p It wasn't deep so I'm fine. :D

My girlfriend went to grab a cookie sheet and a kitchen knife slipped out and landed between her toes. Another time, her sister was messing with scissors and accidentally dropped them. Luckily the scissors landed between the toes again. Those are lucky feet I tells ya.

As for me, i was using the knife on my leatherman to pry something out and the knife slipped on me. Stabbed my middle finger deep.

So many stories...

Most recent. I was cord wrapping my Becker BK11, I didn't bother to tape off the blade because I was leaving the sheath on. That's gotta be better than tape! Yeah, that's what I thought. Came to the end of my wrap, pulled the last couple of wraps tight... and in a moment (split second) of brilliance, realized that that the blade just jumped from the sheath. I tried reversing the direction I was pulling on the cord to resheath the knife. Yep, I went from having the factory plastic sheath to leather in the blink of an eye. Sadly, it was the untanned hide of my left hand. Stupid. At least that was what my wife said I got for trying to cord wrap on the toilet... She was just happy that I was able to uh... well... one hand my @$$ alone! Like I said, stupid! Oh, and embarassing! :o

This past xmas I was opening a gift which was a priority mail box of course wrapper in gift paper and when I stuck the knife in I knew I did more then cut cardboard. I went on to open the box and inside my new wvu backpack had a huge hole sliced down the side. :(

Another time I was playing around flipping my smallfly and had ahold of the wrong handle. Well when I went to knock the back of blade off my hand to close I knocked the edge of my knuckles and blood was everywhere. I still sport a nice scar.

I haven't had anything too bad... But DAYUM have I come close.
Surprisingly I have the instinct to pull my hand up and away and move my feet when I drop my knife.

Dude, why on the toilet? xD

I was flipping my Spyderco Karambit once and it accidentally got caught in my keychain, which messed the edge up badly. That's the one that troubles me the most. Got so mad that I just bought another identical knife right away.

I lost my Spyderco ZDP Delica in the library. :(

I cut my hand opening a bottle with a knife once while drunk. Luckily it was only an IKEA knife, which I basically got for free, that barely even had something you could call an edge. I hit my hand pretty hard with it though and got quite a cut. Had it been a good sharp knife, I'm scared to think what would have happened.

Except for a couple of bali bites, that's about it.

I watched as a co-worker went to open a water meter box with a small folder. The blade slipped off the 6-7 pound top and stabbed his other hand. Took him straight to the ER. He hasn't done that again.

Had just gotten a Case CV Chestnut Brown Bone Peanut. Was fondling the knife, opening and closing the blades. I had the small pen blade open, and as I went to close it, I noticed my right index finger was on top of the handle, near the butt. I looked at it for a second, guaged I had room, and finished closing the knife. Yup, right through the side of my knuckle... Took about a year for it to stop hurting. The scar is barely noticeable though, that knife was sharp.

I just cut myself with the large blade on my Vic 1990's Mechanic. I sharpened both blades last night on my Lansky, and just now was doing a little cutting test on paper. As I closed the blade, my little finger was in the way, and I sliced 'er open, along the inside just under the nail. Ow!

I was using an Opinel to peel bark from a tree limb. While making a long, quick slice, the blade hit a bump and stopped suddenly while the handle and my hand kept moving. The lock ring failed and the blade folded on my index finger. Only two stitches, but...ouch. Still afraid of using the Opinel for such activities.

I have a habit of using my foot to break the fall of something I've dropped. It's a reflex now.

I dropped a brand new Benchmade 583. ( the full size Barrage with the Tanto blade)

The tip stuck in my leg about 6 inches above my ankle.

Oh, and I was wearing a brand new pair of jeans too.

So, so many cuts over my 35 years.

The two worst:
Sliced between the index knuckle and base of thumb while carving down a hockey stick handle.

Stupidly using a 6" steak knife to pry frozen meat, the knifre slipped and I drove the knife through my hand.

two surgeries later, and I still have nerve damage and permanently reduced grp in my hand
