Ace Sonoma, anyone picked one up?

I'm a fan of both Anso and Voxnae's designs so I immediately ordered one, the satin blade version. I prefer the dark PVD finished handle but don't care for the bead blast blade, so went with the tumbled handle and satin blade. If I end up disliking the finish of the handle I can easily send it out to have it PVD coated, anodized or whatever. That would be easier and less expensive than buying the PVD handled version and having the bead blasted blade refinished to satin.

Reate's quality is magnificent so I was glad to learn they are the maker. In contrast, I own three knives made in Maniago (by three different companies within the Maniago group) and all have fit, function and finish issues. Making things worse is their customer service which in my experience has been POOR to NON-EXISTENT...all three companies. Very disappointed and because of that I now steer away from Italian manufacturers unless they can offer full-time USA customer service and warranty support.

Reate on the other hand is a pleasure to deal with. Jon is very responsive as well as others with whom I've had the pleasure to correspond.

Fingers crossed, hope my Sonoma is as good as it looks.

Its gonna be executed as well as you think i bet. I wanna hear about edge geometry and how it cuts and all that. Heres hoping they use reate more, theyll be a lot more consistent.

My experience with Maniago made knives has been stellar. I have a TOPS folder and a couple of Spydies that are superb. My GM Iona is also great. I don't mind buying a low cost Chinese knife for a beater, but I won't buy a spendy one.

Youre missing out, reate makes excellent stuff. glad to hear all yours were fine. i had a gm5 and it was all good but they have more people posting with problems on drops than i like to see for such limited runs. $265 for reate build quality and GM design is gonna be a good deal

Just received today and it's instantly my new favorite EDC. Fit, finish and function is fabulous. GiantMouse/Reate knocked it out of the park. IMHO this knife will appease the most discerning knife aficionados, especially at it's price point.

Shown in this photo, I've disassembled the knife and gave the matte SW scales a little polish with Flitz just to add just a little sheen, and also on the clip and backspacer to lighten the brass yellow color. Also gave each screw a brushed satin finish (original is chrome bright) because that's the way I roll.

That's a very nice knife. Glad to see my constant badgering on IG paid off. I've been suggesting in a not-so-subtle way that they do a full production GM3 since they anounced the ACE line. I'll definitely be picking one up.

Well, I got mine in today, and I must say, while I've enjoyed Giant Mouse knives from the beginning, and think that some of the criticism they've had has been overblown, the Sonoma is most definitely, without question, the absolutely best executed knife they've ever put out.

Reate really has mastered their game, and this one stands head and shoulders above previous Ace knives, and frankly, all of the limited edition GMs as well. The GM5 came close to this level of execution, but there were inconsistencies. This one is just, well, perfect.

Hope they keep doing them all this way.

Glad to hear*. I miss my GM3, but never loved it. The GM5 is the only I've kept. Hoping to pick one of these up second hand someday.

*pics or it didn't happen ;)

I think it's great for anyone that didn't spend the money on a GM3. Since I did, I'm a bit disappointed that they basically copied it. The fact that the Sonoma will likely be better quality at a lower price is just salt in the wound, lol.

Yeah, I'd say it's pretty much exactly the knife that the GM3 should have been. Sorry for the extra salt.

that's really good to hear, I'm still hung up on the skinny blade and handle..... your pic is great though. I need to get my hand on one

I like how it looks except for the overly large choil and boring slab of titanium. Put a design on there or something

I just purchased one yesterday, I can’t wait to get it in hand.

Watched a youtube unboxing video for it, it appears that the detent issues of the GM series has been fixed. “Push button” action fired hard.
