Hello all,

I am looking to put an acid etch finish on my blade using either ferric chloride or hot vinegar solution. My question is, will I run into any problems attempting this w/ AUS8 steel? Also, how long should I leave the blade submerged in the solution of either F.C. or hot vinegar?

I've done some searching but I cant seem to find the answer.

Just for reference, this is the look I'm going after:

NWA did, im my opinion, an great job on this knife, and the finish really caught my eye.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Graycliff,
I don't think you will have any luck with the ferric or vinegar on stainless. I think you will need a much stronger acid. Might be wrong though. Look for the stainless damascus etching instructions. I think this will suit your needs better.

You're working with stainless steel !! You probably need the acids that are used for Damasteel, fairly concentrated sulphuric or hydrochloric acids .Check the USA dealer for Damasteel, they have instructions for etching those stainless steels.

muriatic acid should work for you , you can get it at most any hardware store that carry cement supplys
it works on Damasteel ok..
