Acid etched Crickets were due out in Feb. Any idea on an ETA and MSRP??
I would like to see a sprint run of acid etched Harpys, one of my all time favorite Spydies!!

Acid etched Lava with SE blade, anyone interested? Still waiting to hear a release date on the Etched Crickets, I want an SE & a PE when they show up.

Acid etching to all the SS models should be a simple enough option...solves the age-old issue of slick scales. I'd love to have a Harpy this way.

It would probably top my homemade divot-handled Harpy. Texture added with a spring punch.

The issue would be that it doubles the number of variations of the same knife dealers need to carry. Not sure everyone will like the look, so simply replacing the plain with the etched would not be sensible, at least not at this point where the reaction of "John Q. Public" to the acid etched look is still unknown. Could be hot, could be a lead balloon.

Deacon, The only way to find out is acid etching is going to work is try a short run of each and see if they are accepted. Do nothing and we will never know.

Yes, my point exactly. There are three such "tests" scheduled - Dragonfly, Cricket, and Spin - and I think it makes sense to give Spyderco a chance to gauge the results of those before committing to any more.

Thanx Paul. The voice of reason. ;)

We cannot do "short" runs of acid etch. Minimum 2,000 pcs pr model or design. Etching also eliminates engraving.

As mentioned, we'd like to see the results of the etched scales on models that are fairly well accepted before doubling our SKUs in SS models.

Sal, is this finish (or perhaps a similar, though less costly to implement finish) something that might trickle down to the SS Byrds?

What does Acid Etching look like? Are there pictures of what the Spyderco models will look like Acid Etched?

I tried a search, and nothing obvious to me, came up on this forum, or the one on spyderco. I'm sure I've probably just missed it somewhere.

Thanks.

Here's a page from the '07 catalog showing the Cricket and Dragonfly. For some actual photos you can look through this thread on the Spyderco Factory Forum

I want an etched Spin :)

Though I do really like the spider web design on the regular Spin...

i Padawan,

It's a process. We can do it on byrds. We can actually etch any patern or picture, but there needs to be a higher volume. I would like to do a run for a large company with their company logos etched on the handle.
