Acid wash question

Hey guys I have a question. I'm making a knife that I want to do an acid washed finish on. Just acid no stone washing but I'm doing a black micarta handle that will be pinned and epoxied on. Normally I glue the handle on then shape it but if I acid wash the blade then attach the handle when I shape it I will end up sanding off the etching on the tang around the handle. What is the preferred method for this type of knife?

I am interested as well. I have read some say tape it off and use an applicator of some sort to do just the spine when finished. It won't affect the epoxy but might affect the micarta though I wouldn't think it would.

I use assembly pins. Roll pins work if your final pins are nominal sized pins. Hold everything tight right where you want it, do all your shaping, knock the pins out, etch the knife then do your final glue up with your solid pins.
