Actual EDC use and needs

I have been reassessing my actual EDC uses and needs here lately (I am such a nerd)

So like...my knife
My one and only ...if I had to pick one for the rest of my life...
Is a pioneer or wenger si (I actually do prefer the si due the bail over the keyring but they discontinued)

So on days I don't work ...I carry the pioneer with the classic (now the mini champ) on my keyring
And I call it done
But on work days ...my work EDC is easily and with no contest my skeletool. (I know it's not traditional but bear with me)

And I just feel silly carrying a sak and a multi tool. Additionally...it's only March and I am already being reminded how intense the humidity is and how badly and easily carbon steel rusts here.
So to me, one of the biggest advantages of a traditional slippie over a modern folder or lockback type knife is... multiple blades (or in the case of a sak...tools)

But...If I am already carrying a skeletool...I have a decent blade and tools
Freeing me up for something slimmer and easier to carry ... preferably in stainless

This is leading me to think I should pick me up something like a buck 55 or 501
Smallish, simple, sturdy, great warranty and easy to carry to pair with my skeletool for work
And just rock the pioneer on my days off.

I did warn y'all I am a nerd 🤓

🤣

I don’t think you’re doing anything that the rest of us haven’t done (maybe many times) before. There’s always a question about what’s fun vs what’s practical vs what’s “actually” necessary.

What you need is a GEC beerlow. I’m sure it’ll solve all your problems. ;)

*ahem* actually a slim pen or similar has a lot to recommend it. And if it’s stainless, so much the better!

Lol I resist because I soooo prefer carbon steel
I can get it sharper for some reason
And dang it all if the patina isn't prettier and cooler than any stainless steel blades

But it's March and my 48 started rusting in my pocket ...just existing

Lol I doing that
And all I know is it keeps me wanting to buy more knives
And that ain't good. Cause she who must be obeyed is getting irritated at me 😬😁
I feel your pain lol

Maybe just get a thinner SAK with less tools? A Victorinox electrician might fit the bill. A sweet awl, a great main blade, and a nice but funky sheepsfoot. And stainless too!

Ya need figure out a way to care for the carbon so it gets used in summer. You could coat your blade with unflavored chapstick for example.

I carried my old timer 34OT through many summers. I just let it rust and cleaned it up bout once a week. Sometimes I’d tend to it every couple days. So you could get a sacrificial knife. Rust makes its own lovely patina.

I was recently a recipient of a pioneer x gifting
And I am gonna be extremely honest, I certainly like it better than the farmer I finally moved on via the pass around box. Because i barely access the blade past the saw
The pioneer x is a lot easier to address all the blades and tools

But I just don't find the 3 layer alox nearly as easy and convenient as I do the pioneer or SI (and I would assume the cadet which I have yet to pick up)

On a day to day basis, how much actual cutting do you actually do? And I am not talking about finding a reason to use a knife as some folks will look for reasons to take a knife out.

Slim and stainless? oOoOO those slimline trappers are purdy.... Maple burl... Natural bone... It's a bit larger than I think you are going for, though.

I also agonize over my edc choices. I have too many knives/multitools and truth be known any of them would work fine for whatever I may encounter during the day. But if I carry something with one blade, I keep thinking I would rather have something with a second backup blade for rough work. But I feel ridiculous carrying multiple knives for some reason. I want mutitools, but have access to tools at work, home, and in my truck, so I find I don't really need them. So like it has been stated here, I keep rotating through all my junk 😂
As far as your op, the Buck 55 is excellent and I think that paired with a skeletool would be a great carry option

Buck 301 or Case xx75 Stockman (or some other more affordable large/extra large stockman, like the Rough Ryder 603) or a sowbelly stockman paired with the Scout/Demo/SAK or MT.
Personally, I prefer the large/extra large and sowbelly stockman.
I know they ain't, but the medium size stockman (Buck 303/Old Timer 34OT ... not sure what Case) look ... flimsy/weak to me in use.
