Actual "tactical" use of a tomahawk?

Actually the military already made and had the hand mattox in inventory a long time ago.

An Army Ranger used one in Afghanistan to kill an insurgent/Taliban fighter a few years ago. There's a few scattered stories from Nam but that's about it.
I would imagine you would not find a whole lot more stories of people using knives in combat, either. In modern day warfare, blades of any kind are much more tools that weapons, even if they can be and (very) occasionally are used as such.

Yeah,As cool as it sounds if your close enough to hawk them they're close enough to get you too.I think in "real war" 2 in the chest and 1 in the head is a better policy.
I can't seem to find the thread but it was on here where I heard the story of the Army ranger. He was clearing a house and an insurgent came at him from a closet or doorway he supposedly hit him in the clavicle area and killed him.Cool if true.

Between your hawks, the (someday) war hammer, pick mattock, my kukri. . .I'm going to be leaving 8 inch deep boot marks on the trail.

Am I the only one looking at that hand pick and wondering how it would throw?

i am ashamed to admit, they throw GREAT.
LOL, if anyone would have tried, it would have been you. :p

also: cats do not like them.

Alright, this is seriously scary, because I was thinking about all the stray cats that people drop off around here as, ummm, challenging targets. We're thinking way to much alike lately.

Oh, you do know I ordered one of those surplus hand picks last night, don't you? ;)
