Just a warning to people, there is a person on Facebook that goes by the name Adam Smith and he pretends to make and sell custom handmade Damscus knives. He has a Damascus knife as his Facebook picture, do not purchase any knives through this person. He resells Pakistan/foreign knives for hundreds of dollars and pawns them off as if he handmade them. These are cheaply made knives that are not the quality he advertises.

LOL. One of many reasons, right? For folks buying damascus, either go with somebody using stuff from companies/producers that you have actually heard of or knife makers who forge their own. Pakistan dammy muy malo!!!!!!
Thanks for the heads up. Another +1 to the reasons that I don't have a FB account.

For every scammer and fool on Facebook, it has made 1000 others smile. FB isn't the source of problems.

There is probably the same (or worse) ratio of deadbeats right here on Bladeforums.

As Hippie8388 learned through posting in the C&HK forum, research is key. Here, there, eBay, Craigslist, etc.

There are a TON of good things happening on Social Media. Watch your back and look WAY forward!

Thanks for the heads up about Adam Smith. Not cool.

It's the internet, what do you expect? It's not just on FB, Instagram or craigslist... it's everywhere, including all the forums. Do YOUR homework, and you will greatly reduce your risk.

I'm sorry to hear that there is someone else with my name who is messing up his/our reputation. I'm in the process of getting back into knifemaking after a long period of making only on a personal and intermittent basis.

I was a full time knifemaker from about 1976 to 1989, Knifemakers' Guild member from 1980 to 1986, check me out in the 1981 Knifemakers' Guld digest or Ken Warner's Knives annual books from 1984 and 1987. I spent 1984 doing nothing but pattern welded and related work, sort of as a research project. Anyone who calls pattern welded knives "Damascus" probably isn't me! (Yes, I know, the ship has sailed on that debate!)

I'm just replying here because if you search on google for "Adam Smith Knives" this thread comes up, and may create a confusion with my site. I'm doing no pattern welded knives at this point.

My domain is adamsmithknives.ca. I'm based in a hamlet in southern Ontario, in Canada. (I don't know where the other Adam Smith is.)

Thanks for your (collective) patience.
