Adamas issues - UPDATE back from Benchmade

Hi Blade forums,

I might be posting in the wrong section, op, I apologize if I am.

I just got a mini Adamas , love it - but, the vertical blade play is beyond unacceptable. I’ve been carrying a Benchmade since 97, rarely have I seen play like this, and only in access lock models. It’s seems like this is common now, vertical play, even acceptable to most. I edc’d the original Adamas for over 7-8 years ( stupid levels of abuse and misuse ) and never had any issue with play.

Is this common now ? Anyone else have luck with Benchmade warranty dept ? I sent the knife to BKC today. From what I’ve read, seems like any knife with this issue returned unchanged from company. Maybe I’m alone , I can’t stand blade play.

Thank you in advance!

I have only 6 Benchmades all axis-locks including the original D2 Adamas and none have any blade play at all. While obviously it can occur I doubt you will find many Benchmade owners who think bladeplay is "common". If you just got your mini-Adamas I suggest you return it for replacement/repair.

K KenHash Appreciate the response. Honestly makes me feel better. The Mini is on its way to Oregon city now. Fingers crossed - that little Adamas would be excellent edc. Thank you

I'm sure you'll get taken care of. I've bought 3 BMs this year and that kind of blade play is not common in my experience.

I have a handful of Benchmades and all have been perfect (smooth, no blade play), until two I purchased this year:
945 & a 535-3.

Both have the same issues, horrible gritty action and unacceptable blade play. The 945 has been sent in twice and I'm waiting for it to be returned. The 535-3 was just purchased, so I'm waiting to see the results on the 945 before deciding to send it in. I've tried tuning both, but my guess is either the blades aren"t flat, the liners aren't flat or the washers are out of spec.

My current 940 is so smooth, you'd guess there would be blade play, but it's solid as a rock.

I was speaking with someone in CS at Benchmade who said that knives that come back for being gritty or for lock stick often literally just get flicked over and over at Benchmade until they are smooth. The person is senior in CS, so it's factual. Makes sense given all of the Benchmade that I've broken in, but it's still somewhat funny.

I don't doubt what you say, but I can't imagine a paid employee flicking a gritty knife for any extended period of time. Unless of course they can do other things at the same time or even better while on their lunch break.

Update - again, sorry to dump in OP thread. Just got the Mini back from Benchmade. I’m Extremely happy to say, it’s fixed 👍. I will continue to carry a Benchmade after all ( especially if they bring back the 910 Stryker).

Customer service was excellent, turn around time was much faster than I expected as well. Happy customer.

Thanks for letting me dump my coffee rant.

Never fun when you have a problem, but it does take the sting out some when a company tries to make it right. Glad to see they assisted those of you that had problems. Good looking knives, look stout too.
