adding Caly washers

I used to have a carbon fiber Caly 3 that was a very impressive slicer.
The only problem was stiffness when opening and marring of the blade around the pivot point.

Now I would like to buy a Caly 3.5 ZDP-189 and am trying to determine if thin washer material can be added to smooth the opening and protect the blade surface.
Would this even be possible?

danke

I don't think there's enough room for this. I've taken apart Caly 3s and 3.5s. The pivot area is a very snug fit since they're designed to be washerless. I'd expect the opening stiffness to be more a result of the backlock than a problem with the blade tang / liners. All the ones I've seen apart have been pretty highly polished and very smooth. If the pivot on the Caly 3 was clean and lubed, then I'd suspect it was the backlock causing the stiffness.

The marring around the tang is harmless, it's just a feature of how the knife is designed.
