Hey All,

Been busy the last week or so. I picked up a few more blades and wanted to show em off. First is the BK4, I got this off the sales forum, man it is just what I would have done with it if it was brand new. It's stripped, has micarda scales, and a kickass kydex sheath, I certainly will be making a leather sheath for it very soon. I was not a big fan of the 4 when I first saw it but as I read threads here and the praise it was getting I had to try it. Once I had it in hand it won me over, it feels a bit like my khuks, very comfy in hand a very nimble. I look forward to using it. Check out the pics

Next is my JAB Potbelly, Man when I saw C_Tanner's and saw the video review Clich did I knew I had to have it. Before it came I reached out to Tommythewho and had him make me a set of scales for it. I went with Bocote and boy was it ever the right choice. When the blade came I stripped it sanded down to about 320 and buffed it with 4-O steel wool. Did a little clich job to it, but very light. I was very surprised by the sheath it came with, it is very roomy and will work very well attached to a pack. But being a leatherbender, I had to make a sheath for it. I decided to keep it low profile, I like to work with the blade shape and go from there, I did not want any pouches or tabs, I just wanted a nice simple belt/sash carry sheath. Looking at the blade design I thought it would be cool to do a partial open front for easy removal and replacement. I also notched the top of the sheath for the scales to sit in a bit. The overall design came out really cool. The blade fit like a glove and with the retention strap it is very secure.Enough talk check out the pics.Hope you all like them.

Looking good. I love that kydex 4 sheath. Perfect color too. ;)

Very nice. That Azwelke 4 kydex is a masterpiece of design, it truly is.

Im digging the JAB sheath, awesome job bro. I am really almost convinced I need a Potbelly. Tommy's stuff is looking great (as usual).

Thanks Thrill, the kydex is very nice, it came with the package, I am going to be hitting you up for some of your work soon. You cant go wrong with the potbelly, its really a beast of a blade.

That Potbelly looks great. Love the bocote and sheath. Those wood scales really make the Potbelly feel like a different knife, huh? Tommy does a great job.

I'm really taken with the Potbelly. I've read all the reviews I can find and while users praise it for its cutting power some seem to have problems with ergo of the scales or grip. Please let me know how it works out for you. And who is Tommy that did the custom work?

Thank You man, the Bocote is awsum, I can tell you that going from the stock scales to the wood make it completely different, it feels totally different in a good way.

Thanks Sam, You wont be disappointed with it, the stock scales are ok but a bit small for my liking but would work well. The scales from Tommythewho made it even better than it was stock, a bit more swell in the palm a bit thicker than stock which i really like. get one bro.

That Potbelly and leather look great. Very nice work and great choice on the bocote.

Thank you very much

You're welcome Pugs75 and my thanks to you for starting this thread. I've been intrigued by the Potbelly for several months. Have you done much chopping with it since getting the new wood scales? How is the vibration factor with the wood? PS I'm a newbie here so some of my questions might seem silly. I'm set to receive the BK5 sometime next week. After that, we'll see what gets the next order :)

I really like this blade, it is bigger than it looks and is very stout, it chops very well, you can also choke up and do finer work, I have felt no vibration chopping, but I have only chopped up to 2in or so limbs, but went through easily with a few shots. The scales fit my hand perfect and I felt no hot spots while using them and feels very secure in my hands. To me the wood give it a nice warm feel when using.

pugs75, ok you have talked me into it. I will get the Potbelly soon. Thanks for addressing the issue of hotspots which is the big criticism I've read about. I'm hoping my medium size hands will be ok with it. The wood scales are sweet! It looks like Skystorm Leather is in the process of creating a sheath for the Potbelly. BTW, how do you like the sheath that comes with the Potbelly?

The sheath it comes with is really nice, it's very roomy has some storage, It will do the job for sure. I plan on using it as a pack sheath. I like making leather sheaths for my blades but aside from that the sheath does have a future for me. With the new scales the top strap is a bit tight and the bottom strap is too small.

Welcome to the Cult of the Potbelly. Looks awesome! Let me know if you ever get a craftsman membership, might want one of those sheaths (don't want you to get banned!)....looks like a great design for that knife!

pugs75,

Thanks for mentioning the sheath fit with the new scales. That is something I need to consider as my plans are to probably swap out the scales that come with the knife, and I may want a new sheath. What are your thoughts about how the Potbelly's cutting ability compares to the BK9 or BK4? I'm new to Beckers and so far have only used and own the BK2. Do you think the Potbelly is a much better chopper (or baton knife) than the bK2? I hope my question is not to much to ask. Thanks.

No problem the top strap fits a bit tight but works. The pot belly is a bad ass cutter, better convexed. Here is a link to a video review Clich did on the potbelly check it out. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/950320-C_tanners-pot-belly. The 2 is a great blade, the pb is a bit bigger and kind of puts it in another class IMHO.
