Adding to my stable A BK4 and a Tommythewho and Pugs inspired Potbelly (Pic Heavy)

No problem the top strap fits a bit tight but works. The pot belly is a bad ass cutter, better convexed. Here is a link to a video review Clich did on the potbelly check it out. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/950320-C_tanners-pot-belly. The 2 is a great blade, the pb is a bit bigger and kind of puts it in another class IMHO.

Good to know. Thanks for the link to the video review. Impressive chopper. How do you think the Potbelly compares in chopping power with the BK9 and the BK4?

BTW, I've used the word chopper when I should have just asked you about overall cutting, chopping, splitting, batonning etc? Does your praise refer to other types of cutting too?

I wish I could give you an answer on that, I do not have the 9 yet, it's on the way though. But I don't think the PB would top the King, I have not yet tried the PB and 4 against each other yet. Maybe some other folks could chime in here. The PB is overall very impressive, it's spine thickness is 3/8ths and from the little work I have done, it just plain works for me.

pugs75,

Thanks man. You have been giving me great answers. Save for the world ending and needing a big blade to chop down a tree in the woods to build a cabin and to cut zombies in half the Potbelly more than meets my current and foreseen cutting needs. The stripped PB with the wood handles is also a modern classic looking blade. If you lived in Portland Oregon I'd buy you a beer from one of our many great local micro breweries.

The PB and the BK9 are two different beasts. The BK9 is my favorite knife, so I am biased. The But I didn't name my PB "Woody Wood-Wrecker" for nothing. And a Tommy handle completely changes the feel of the knife.

The BK9 should always be bought first. But the PB is unique. Like a genetically modified BK2 super soldier. The 1/4" thickness coupled with the hollow grind is pure evil.

^this^

The 9 is better at chopping and batoning bigger stuff; the longer blade generates more leverage, I think. But for smaller branches and light brush, the PB seems to just go through it all like butter. It's almost scary how sharp the PB can be, and how the weight of the blade adds to its power.

C_Tanner and wasatchdan,

Thanks for your replies. They've helped me to better clarify the different blades as I consider my own needs and priorities.

Anytime man, that's what we do here help each other out. Sometimes it hurts our bank accounts but it's all worth it. I wish I lived closer, I would take you up on that beer. Keep em sharp.
