Just finished this one for A.B. 4" DA Damasteel Stainless Blade and Bolsters. Antique Ivory Micarta. Engine turned Ti liners. Ti backspacer with nuggets and dual anodizing. Chew Voodoo. Fast and smooth, long and lean. Thanks Addison.
Some makers call it jewelling. Machinists call it engine turning.
Jewelling is setting jewels in something. Engine turning is done with an abrasive rotated, say in a milling machine or drill press and brought into contact with the metal. It's the little round swirls you see inside some folders liners. Some use round abrasive sticks you can buy at machine supply houses. You can use round wooden dowels and lapping compounds. I've seen it done with a pencil eraser and small wire cup wheels.
Thanks amigos. It is Hakkapellita and Odin's Eye bolsters. Damasteel is very nice to work and heat treats very well. Cuts and holds an edge well also. The owner is ship board at sea at this time serving our military intrests. He had this one made for EDC, I'm building another one built that will be all Hank Knickmeyer designer damascus. I'm just waiting on the steel to get here. Chilly. ld
