I was wondering what you guys do about the adhesive that sneaks out the front of the handle scales when you are gluing them on.

I'm using the devcon 2 ton epoxy and I didn't Even think of the front edge until it was too late on my first handle project that I'll admit to doing.

Thanks in advance!

lacquer thinner works for me, but it could be damaging to your handle, depending on the material you're using.
you could also try denatured alcohol.
good luck!

Take an Exacto knife with a fine point blade and make a cutt right in front of your scales, the use the blade to pop the epoxy off the blade.Be gentle.

you can also make a scraper from brass or deer antler if you have any and scrape the epoxy off the blade. you can also put a piece of tape just in front of the scales to help keep the epoxy off the blade.

And you can remove uncured epoxy with rubbing alcohol the next time it happens.

I've found that Vaseline on the front of the scales and the blade helps a lot. You do have to be careful not to get or smear it anywhere that glue is supposed to go.

If you were to use Brownell's Acraglas, it comes with a "Release Agent" that you can "paint" onto the surfaces that you don't want to get stuck to the epoxy. I find that beneficial.

I just use Q-tips to wipe any excess off right after clamping . Any thin residual left will clean up easy when dried with acetone . Some folks spray wd-40 on the excess and then wipe off with a cloth .

Give the epoxy a few minutes to start to set, then WD40 on a rag. Should wipe right off.
