Larrin's post on the new Sandvik steels carried by Admiral reminded me of a question I keep meaning to ask:

Does anyone know what Admiral's damascus is? Either what the composition is or who makes it. It might be useful some day, but I'm not likely to buy any just on the name of the stuff

I'm not sure why but I was under the impression that it was Chad Nichols damascus. If that is indeed the case it is 1095/nickel, although I had heard he was going to 1095/15n20 due to the price of nickel.

Chad told me he will still make 1095/nickel upon request and at a higher price due to the increase in the cost of nickel.

I'd prefer the 1095/15n20 for blades anyway. I'm not too thrilled about anything on the edge that can't get hard. Nickel in the middle of a multi-bar blade is another matter all together.
