i'm not trying to be negative or bash anyone. but does anyone else think that Admiral Steel's shipping cost is just over the top?

does it seem reasonable that one piece of HR 1075/1080 1/8 X 2 X 60 that is $14.46 should cost $19.79 to ship?

curious as to your opinions.... i may be wrong i dont know

thanks

jake

i think they are a great company, but i always make sure and order a few pieces at once, it makes the shipping seem a little less painful.

those tubes are expensive to ship, for instance, it costs like 7 dollars on top of regular shipping to ship a fishing rod from bass pro shops because of the length, and its in the same exact tube.

Ask them to cut the piece in half, and see what the shipping is.

If they are shipping UPS and it is a 6' tube. UPS charges an extra $10.00 to handle a 6' er.

I work for a industrial supplier and we deal with this same issue and tell folks that there will be an extra charge for shipping 6' tubes.

By the way, you should give us a try if you decide to use some tool steel. We have O-1.A-2 and D-2. I'll bet that we have the best prices you will have seen on these three steels as well. Our name and number is.

Admirals shipping is the same price for 1 to ten pounds. I ordered 3/16" x 2" x60" 2 pieces and it was the same price for shipping. Use their weight tables and get as close to 10 pounds without going over to make the shipping more economical. If your order is over ten then shoot for 20 pounds etc.

Spare a thought for us Aussies, last time i ordered steel from Admeral it cost me $500. in shipping for 35kg! I don't think i will be ordering a 300lb anvil any time soon:)

While I have used both Aldo and Kelly couples for my high carbon steel, Admiral is handy when one needs Stainless.
Unless someone knows a more economical stainless provider?
Chris

shipping is about right.

I UPS stuff at work a lot, at 60" UPS charges a little extra, and well you live in MT. UPS costs are based somewhat on proximity to their dock, zones etc. so yeah it's actually pretty good.

Shipping cost really has nothing to do with the value of the shipment.

well of course i want more than one bar of steel. its just i am moving soon and dont want to drag anymore steel the 1200 miles if i dont have to. and i am not going to have a shop for a while so, as wimpy as one bar of steel sounds.... it's sesnible!

i just wanted something so that i could attempt to make something for the kith exchange this year.

the good news is when i move i will be about an hour and fifteen minutes from admiral! not a big drive at all........... no shipping!

and of course i want to order from Aldo and Kelly Cupples, but they dont always have the size i'm looking for.

Congrats on the relocation, basically in Admirals back yard!

Shipping went through the roof everywhere when fuel ( a barrel of oil) kept going up an up. A good precentage of cost of anything now days can be attributed to the shipping, from groceries to steel. :jerkit:

I won't say don't order form this guy or that company, but....I just placed an order with Aldo for 40 ft of steel (appx. 60 lbs) and I think the shipping was like $35-40. Not to mention the fact that the price of the steel was exceptional. I was sold on his reputation not only when alot of the makers here bragged on his product, but also when my favorite MS highly recommended it as well.

COuld someone give me there web address or a phone # to Aldo and Kelly Cupples
Thanks if it could be P/M to me that would be sweet thanks again Jim

Aldo: ALDO BRUNO <njsteelbaron@gmail.com>

Kelly Cupples <octohunter@charter.net> or <octihunter@charter.net>
it's one or the other of those but I forgot exactly. Order over $100.00 and I think Kelly ships free if I remember correctly

I am thankful that I bought 1440" of .264x1-3/4"5160 for 300 cad localy after seeing admirals prices. What I am going to do with that much steel is beyond me.

I just ordered some PFG 36" of 5/32" x 1.5" and 36" of 1/8"x1.5" for 62.00 shipped. I thought the prices were very good compared to other places I have purchased from. I ordered this from Nick(NWA).
