I recently ordered some ATS-34 from Admiral. When the UPS guy brought it up to the house I refused it - the packing tube was broke in half and the steel was bent. That was on a Friday and by Monday Terry Summers called me and apoligised and had the new stuff on the way. Said he would take care of everything and he appreciated my business.
.

that was a UPS problem I'm sure Terry was good to take care of that for you..
the cold roll is sheared I believe so you can get bends in it.
that's what I use my grinder for :footinmou :)

ATS34 is the Japanese copy of 154CM..
I buy the original,,, made in the USA 154CM :)

Dave take the screws out of the end of the tube and remorve the metal plug :)
the O1 from them comes out of a differant place they don't grind it.. ;)

After buying from Admiral with very inconsistent results, I buy ATS from
Sheffield. I have never had any of the problems with Sheffield that I had
with Admiral. Their precision flat ground is pricey, but very well done, and great to work with. It also requires little if any straightening.

OK my Opinion and observations over a few years..
if it's precision flat ground, in deed, it should not need any straightening at all.
cold roll will need some straightening just because it has been sheared and it has not been precision flat ground, if not liked it should be bought in bar stock..
the O1 is ok all the time unless damaged, because it's been precision flat ground and the only way you can buy it as a rule :( , we are comparing apples to oranges here.
if you get ats34 precision flat ground you'll have the very same flatness and finish as you get with the O1.
I started grinding my own steel to over come any of these misunderstood problems that some companies get flak over, you get what you pay for (normally) or the company will fail to do well but in turn we need to understand what we are paying for.
consistency will be with the precision flat ground steels only unless hand picked and or straighten but still not as good as precision flat ground . think about this, O1 is cheep steel until it's been precision flat ground.

Congrats on your good luck with Admiral ! Buy a lotto ticket ! :D
I've had very poor luck with them, I was even told ( when I did order from them a while ago) that Terry Sommers was no longer employed with them. That was 3 years ago, and 2 messed up orders.

Mr SShepherd
hear-say is a very bad thing to spread around

I met Terry personaly at the bladeshow
not the last one (because I didn't go) but at the one before it
just a bit over two years ago. and he's been one here long since then.
to know what you'er talking about would help.

Excuse me ? This "hear-say" you speak of, I was told by the sales person on the phone that Terry was no longer employed ..hardly hear-say. This was one of the reasons I quit buying from them. oh..and here's a little side note--I'd spoken with Terry at Blade 2002 a week prior to my order.
I've voiced my concerns to Admiral, Terry, and have never recieved an responce.
I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about Mr.Gray

My implication was not that terry didn't work for Admiral, but that the sales person didn't have a clue, which would also explain messed up orders.

pretty sure kills the cat..being sure is getting it from the horses mouth.

your Excused I guess  if it was a brain fart :)
explain hear-say to me please..
I'm not going to have pissing contest with you..and you can get pissed if you'd like,,, it's your baby...
you're sure?,, but sad to say not right though you use an implication
then got your timing wrong you said 3 years ago
then repeated something here that I wouldn't stake my life on.

I met Terry in 2003 at blade and he was representing Admiral at that time.
and since then he has represented Admiral right here on BFC as resent as this year if I'm not mistaken...
call 1-800-323-7055 ext 3193 it's to late to talk to him but you can
leave him a message in his voice mail..

Just an FYI, Terry has posted on this forum, FROM ADMIRAL STEEL within the last 6 months. In fact, he started several threads in this forum within that time frame. You can search them out.
Why would he post from there, trying to straighten out a lot of this past shi'ite if he no longer worked there?
And why was this year old thread resurrected, just to ask a simple question, when a post would have sufficed?

was searching the old posts dated back before he join.

As I said the number is 1-800-323-7055 ext 3193 if anyone want to know for sure,, for them selves :)

I buy 440C & ATS-34 precision ground in 3ft lengths from K & G with no problems, Before that gotten it from Tru grit in 6ft lengths with good results. Switch to 3 ft lengths to cut UPS overlength charge.

You folks can jump on me..do what ever you like, I was just relaying my expierence with them. I did ask Mr. Sommers my questions on "another forum" on a thread that he had started. I wasn't looking to start a "pissing match" or any other wrench in your machines.
To tell someone they don't know what their talking about , when they had the expierence, can be insulting.

I think you need to stop ripping SShepherd, go back, and read what he originally posted. Hear-say? Maybe you should look that up in a dictionary. He posted about his personal experience with the company, and was told by the company that Terry wasn't there anymore which was yet another mistake by them. How is that hear-say? SShepherd has the right to voice his personal experiences with them and he does know what he's talking about. You just don't seem to know what he's talking about.

SShepherd never said he didn't work there, he stated that a sales person at Admiral told him Terry didn't work there! He KNOWS he works there. If you want to bitch someone out, bitch out the sales person at Admiral.

I think some people here owe SShepherd an apology for totally twisting around his statement.

I can see what SShepherd said! I was telling him that Terry did, in fact, work there.
And that he has also been on this forum several times trying to work with knifemakers to rectify the problems that Admiral was being accused of in this YEAR OLD THREAD!! And, as far as I know, he has done a good job of doing just that.
I don't believe I owe SShepherd an apology. I never accused him of anything.

Funny I've never seen you here before. Just stop by to fan the embers?;)

Time out. This one has lived it's life. Feel free to PM each other.

Hate to see guys I consider friends getting into a pissing contest over nothing.
