Admiral Steel

I have always had good dealings with Admiral. There was the little mixup about their L6, but they got that straightened out. I'm sorry to hear that others have had problems.
Keep in mind, knife steels is a very small part of their sales....

I no longer buy from them, simply because Ive found better sources. Most of my knives are forged from big stock, and Admiral just doesn't carry big stuff.
I get my 1095 and 1084 from Aldo, my W2 from Don, and 15n20 from Kelly. Good guys, good steel, and very reasonable prices and shipping. I get my O1 from ebay, Enco, and Crucible.
I got a lifetime supply of CPM M4 and CPM T15 from my local scrap yard, cheaper than any of the above steels. :D

Thumbs up on the 1084 and 1095 from Aldo! my last order arrived 3 days after I sent the paypal, it was good stuff, clean, and forges beautifully. I got 15n20 from Kelly Cupples, and it was good, I personally do not like his 1084 as much as what Aldo is selling, Kelly's is very thin, and not nearly as clean, but his service is good, and his pricing is not bad. If I ever order from Admiral again it will be only because I need something that nobody else has.

The last time I talked to the folks at carpenter, they said they had L-6 in 1/4" flat stock. 8667909092
I talked with Terry Summers at admiral on wednesday so he is still there.
I have been dealing with the folks at admiral for over 15 years now and have had no problems with service or delivery. I once talked with a guy there (can't remember his name) that was a fool, but even then everything turned out fine.
I deal with terry or linda and I have placed orders on terry's voice mail ie. hi terry this is del I need..............................
and a few days later I get exactly what I wanted.
I have used the 8670 also and it worked fine for the project I was working on.

Del, your post echo's my past experiences with Admiral and Terry, but like I said it's been a few years.

I also used 8670 to pass my JS back in 05, thinking it was L6. It passed with flying colors. but I really would rather use steel that is exactly what it's supposed to be :)

I just ordered a bunch of Sandvik from Heather at Admiral last Tuesday... I was told it was in stock, and would be shipping later in the week. I called Monday morning after reading this thread and requested a tracking number (which I received). The next day my steel was here, carefully packaged, separated into sizes and types, and looking great! All the bar stack was wonderfully clean, and all just a pinch oversize (more steel? I like that!).
Not sure why people are experiencing issues with them, but I've ordered from the a few times now, and with great results!

Aldo, get me some of that 1095 -in a size my pipe-cleaner arms can manage- and I'll buy a bunch from ya!
