I don't know anything about this little knife except that my wife thinks its just yummy! :D

Its probably one of the better friction folders I've handled. Blade is .160 plus thick and has some neatly done jimping and the spacer has that same pattern on what looks to be some kind of black G10. The orange G10 scales are hand grooved to give it some artsy appeal and overall its quite attractive. Blade length is a mere 2 and 3/16" and the whole thing opened looks to be 5 and 5/16".

Anyway its here for a pocket clip. A low rider is what is being ordered for tip down carry RH so I've got to be doing some homework here to figure how to weave a mounting area for the clip between the two barrels and screws there. Then in the end once I get that part mapped out I'll have to show that to the owner and get his ok or ideas and once we are past that I'll mount it using some stainless steel threaded inserts installed in the underside of the folder scales to give some good bite and retention.

I think I have seen the same model knife over at EDC Forums,,,JRYAN is the maker is I recall correctly.

Very cool little knives!

I don't know if they are more or less popular or not. Can't say I keep up with friction folders much. I'd just never seen this one and my wife went ga ga for it. By the way I did see yours yes. Nice but the wife didn't go 'oh how yummy! Is that yours' as she exclaimed with a hopeful confiscation tone to her voice. :D You married gents probably can relate to this tone. Its the same tonal quality that comes with other things in married life which says words but oh so much more along with it. You know the details of what else it says between the lines. Things like: "This is what I want or I'm not going to be so happy next time someone wants attention or if I don't get what I want and now the bedroom account is closed until you find your senses" kind of tone without actually saying it. :D Fortunately I was immediately off the hook by simply saying nope its a customers which caused her to lose total interest and say simply 'Oh' and walk away.

Ok seriousl. Here is a proto type clip to sample for the owner. Now keep in mind this is way long, way wide and thick a bit yet but the mount position is what I was trying to come up with. This is probably as good as you are going to get for where to put it. Now to shape the clip and shorten it because its obviously going to be a bit long when folded over. However if you visualize it same shape thinner and shorter we can get an idea of what I have in mind. I can thin it as much as you want though.

Its really tougher to figure out than it looks making one of these from scratch, which makes it good thing I don't really charge by the hour on these one time deal projects like this.

Steve, I know that knife! Guess who cut the parts:rolleyes: Jared makes a cool little friction. ;)

Well well. What ya know bout that! Yep its a cool little fella.

Not bad at all really. It really needs some liners with some Emerson detent cuts in them to give it some retention against gravity though. Thats what I'd do personally. Cut em out different so they are not exactly like that but would do the job even if they are horizontal instead of angled vertically or something and make them wider or something. Even if it had one of those like the Emerson knives have on the non lock side it would be a lot safer to carry, especially with a clip on it. Just my opinion though.

Looks great Steve, I believe we have a winner on the clip design, I'm perfectly happy with the way it looks! Anyways, i sent you an email about the detent, we'll see how it goes! Thanks for everything! :D

And I would gladly offer one of these folders to your wife except there were only 22 made and I had to wait 6 month to get mine. Jared (the maker) has also started to work full time and I don't know how much time he's going to have from now on to make these great little folders. It is a wonderful design however, looks like a mini cleaver. Now...imagine one of these with a framelock.......droooooolllll

Last I talked to Jared, he will be making more. Theres is a liner and frame lock design of this one by the way. Ask Jared about it. ;)

I hope he makes more. I joined EDC too late to get in on the last offering I thing. Sweet looking little knife.

I do, but I'm a slacker and have let it dwindle to a reg. user account. I need to upgrade here again:D

Thanks for the compliments guys! Steve, that is going to look just awesome with the clip on there, brilliant! Thanks for the heads up on this David!

Love the idea of the detent, that would really take this knife to the next level. Talked to David about that today, very possible that we may try that in the near future. That would be such a great edc, legal everywhere too! Definitely provide a little more security, and I'd have no reservations about adding pocket clips as the detent would work to hold the blade in the open and closed positions, although it probably wouldnt be a problem anyhow as the friction is pretty strong on these, but..the liner(s) would also allow a proper place to drill and tap for a pocket clip.

And yes Bin, I do have plans to make this model into a framelock and linerlock model. (i'll get to you pm over on edcf this evening)
I do actually have some parts for that David helped me with, just havent had the time to get after it. But now that I'm wrapping up the last details of the forum knives, this is one of my main goals to start going from friction folders to locking folders. I will definitely still make the little frickies, just because they're so fun and I have a few orders to finish, but I really want to take my folders to the next level, and for me..that means locking folders!

Great work as usual Steve! One of these days I'm going to get a Spyderco ParaMillie sent to you for a clip! Really looking forward to the completed piece and I'm glad your wife liked it too!

Steve--Make a FF, "Steve style." Whatcha think? It'll sell...fast!

I don't know when I'm supposed to get to that!:D

I've got umpteen Emersons to do, pocket clips, five custom orders outstanding yet, heck maybe its six I've lost count and will have to look. Just too much going on all the time to add more to the list currently.
Besides J has a pretty good handle on it from what I see.

J. I agree its an idea worth developing but keep in mind that Ernie did patent that little tab detent idea of his sometime back in 2001. Patent number 6289592

I had a patent idea going too and it wasn't worth the paper it was written on IMO because I found that just by making some significant changes to your design its pretty easy for someone else to just take it and use it anyway. Live and learn but the point is you would want to do some homework before you just jump in and start doing those.

Good points Steve, I certainly wouldnt go about doing it w/out first talking to Mr. Emerson :)
