ads with sound

When the picture ads were added I just sucked it up.

However, the ads with the noise included are a new low. It means I have to mute the speakers before entering the forum. Yes, I do, because I'm not listening to that stuff.

Supporting BF financially is a fine thing. In fact, if this were to become a pay to play site, I would pay up. However, I find it disturbing to try to irritate people into paying by use of this tactic. If BF cannot afford to offer free memberships, stop doing it.

Dude, go into your volume mixer and mute just your internet.

Or, if you are handy with computers, start using Mozilla and go download NoScript and it will block all ads.

Thanks Tony. Unfortunately, I listen to other stuff on the net. Maybe I'll check out Mozilla.

Or you could cough up $10 and fix the problem that way and support the site. What are you talking about free memberships? You are posting aren't you? That cost you all of, free. It isn't pay to play, but for those that like to read and enjoy learning and chatting with friends, $10 is nothing, even a platinum membership is worth it over the course of a year.

You could try downloading free Avant Browser, pull down on the tool menu, enable the ad blocker then block off pop ups and also turn off 'Play sound when pop up page is blocked' may be of help.

Last night I was getting 2 on the same page, Top and bottom, but so far today I haven't herd one
the ads them self at least have a pause button that doesn't open a new site
I hope this doesn't jinx me

First of all, Bladeforums.com does not select the ads to be used, although I believe Spark retains veto power. The advertisers who are financially supporting the site choose the ads to be used. They pay, they play. Spark can ask them to pull ads if there is a problem. He is not trying to annoy you or anyone else, and it was a major decision to sell advertising space at all. If 50% of the registered users were to spend $10 a year for a basic membership, the ads would probably go away. They can't be all that irritating if it isn't worth spending 3 cents a day to avoid them.

I look at it this way. I've gotten way over $10 of information on this site per year, so it really seems to be a good deal for me. Think of how much you'd have to pay to get this information from blade mags (assuming you could get it) or from attending blade shows. You'd pay a multiple of $10 per year and probably not even come close to the education you're getting here.

Next thing you know, we'll be handing out diplomas with four-year memberships! Or 50,000 posts !!! :D

If someone is upset with their Registered User service,I'm sure Spark will send them a Full Refund.

These sites do not run themselves. Some users pay, others have their usage subsidized by advertisers. (think about it)

Personally I think it is nice that the choice is offered.

Well said, Unit.

Ads are how the internet works. It costs money. Ads, sponsors, subscriptions, donations, etc. Normally I would just say that if you don't like ads, just deal with it or pony up a subscription.

But in the case of ads with sound...nobody should have to deal with it. There should be a federal international law banning them. Funny how they always pop up after you just cranked your volume to max because you were watching a youtube video apparently uploaded by Steve Austin or Jaime Sommers.

I haven't had to deal with ads with sound since adding adblocker to firefox.

I have bladeforums on my whitelist, because I want to do some small thing to support the site. I do not want to have to block ads. I have even made it a point to click through on any banners which seem interesting.

That said, having multiple ads with sound show up simultaneously when opening a thread page is quite obnoxious.

Surely that can't be intended to happen. That doesn't benefit the advertisers.

If the ads annoy you and your cheap ass doesnt wanna pay up, go elsewhere! Sorry long day!

I fully intend to buy a membership... when I can afford it. For now, I would prefer to support Bladeforums by not blocking ads, hence my mention of my whitelist.

However, if this situation stands, I'll have little choice but to withdraw what meager support I offer by viewing ads, and block all ads to root out this loathsome, disgusting minority.
