I understand o1 to be a good knife steel and have made some good users from it. I for some reason think i understand these steel graphs and the big words and then i lose it. I know alot heat to 1500 soak for a few minutes and dunk in oil and are happy. I want to go past this and get top performance from 01. So can i do this with a pid controlled dual thermocouple forge along with my pid controlled electric kiln? I understand that i can heat it do a 10 minute soak and then quench but at a point at aroiund 700 degress i can remove from the quench and slow the cooling to form a better less stressed form matrix of martisnite? i know one is plate and one is latice? but not sure at what number these appear or change. I have read but sometimes i think the more i read the more i get confused? i also dont quit understand the graphs and how the curves mean what at certain points. does any of this make sense that im even writing lol.
