Advantages of a Balisong

The reason I tell people 2 1/2" is because you can go just about anywhere with a knife that size in your pocket. Knife laws usually are very vague on purpose so they can enforce them anyway they want. It changes from day to day, how they enforce the law, and the laws change from city to city, and state to state.

As far as customs is concerned, I just prepared a administrative appeal for a small Batangas Balisong shipment they confiscated of mine. You can see that at: http://home.neo.rr.com/johnr7/customs.doc If anyone has problems opening that page, let me know, and I will put it on a web page. Thanks, JohnR7 on Ebay

>>simple survival sometimes means wielding a >>weapon in defense of your life or that of >>another.

Many children who go to Bible school are taught a simple story about a man who was thrown into a lions den, and who did just fine. Yet, when they threw his enemys in the same pit, they were eaten before then hit the ground. While we may need a weapon, if there was a run on the grocery store, and we had to go out and cook up a duck or something for dinner. I don't believe I need a carnal weapon, to defend myself. No more than Daniel needed one to defend himself against a whole pit full of Lions. Whatever Daniel did, to cause those lions to have no interest in eating him, anyone can do. I maintain that "no weapon formed against me, can prosper" and I do not intend to take up a carnal weapon against anyone. But I have read the constitution and our founding fathers, rebellious lot that they were, did put a provision in there, to allow for the ownership of weapons, and the training in their use. But that is to be prescribed by congress. The idea was, that armed free men, would quickly overthrow a tryant, and that gave us a basis to maintain our freedom. While I may or may not agree with our founding fathers, it's in the constitution, and in order to change it, they would have to rewrite or do away with the American Constitution. I for one, am very grateful for those who have fought for the freedom that we have and enjoy today. But as for me, and my household, we are not going to take up a weapon against anyone, other than the pen. Which some say, is the most mighty of all weapons. Thanks, JohnR7

No, you said it was the Law.

"Knife laws usually are very vague on purpose so they can enforce them anyway they want. It changes from day to day, how they enforce the law, and the laws change from city to city, and state to state."

True, and it should be changed.

"As far as customs is concerned, I just prepared a administrative appeal for a small Batangas Balisong shipment they confiscated of mine."

I wish you the best of luck, the law is stupid.

I believe in God, I also believe that God helps those who help themselves and do not merely rely on parables. Added to which, I don't think it is correct or even fair to extrapolate from that parable a personal philosophy of pacifism. What you are saying is, you are relying on direct, divine intervention, and that is simply not what God is all about, if that was his policy, no children would ever be hunted, molested or killed in this world John.

"I don't believe I need a carnal weapon, to defend myself."

I do not feel comfortable with connotations the word carnal can carry, even though I assume you mean of the flesh and not spiritual.

"No more than Daniel needed one to defend himself against a whole pit full of Lions."

It is not that he did not need one John, it is he did not have one and it was not in God's plan to have him expire at that moment.

"Whatever Daniel did, to cause those lions to have no interest in eating him, anyone can do. I maintain that "no weapon formed against me, can prosper" and I do not intend to take up a carnal weapon against anyone."

He prayed, his prayers were answered. He was put into a situation where he only had to rely on prayer John. Merely thinking and praying that no weapon formed against you will prosper is your own, personal decision but I do not think that is what God is teaching at all.

And if someone violent and evil brought evil into your home, broke in and had a knife, you would not grab a knife from your kitchen if you were able to, or a baseball bat, and defend yourself and your family? If so, that is very sad indeed and again, I don't think that God is teaching pacifism at all, I think that is your interpretation and you are entitled to it as long as you do not force that on others with your vote. And yes, a pen is a mighty weapon, when placed in someone's eye.

I was E-Mailed a joke once, at least I thought it was a joke, but it has some food for thought, I cannot remember it precisely, but here goes...

A man's boat sank in a terrible storm, he made it into the lifeboat.

With a very rough sea, he prayed that he would be delivered from the sea before the sea consumed him.

A Freighter happened upon him and shining a searchlight down, they tossed a lifeline...

The man declared he was waiting for God to save him.

A few hours later, as the sea still raged, yet another vessel happened by, the same offer made and the same denial, the man was waiting on the Deliverer...

An hour later, almost exhausted from trying to stay in the lifeboat, a Search & Rescue Helicopter was sent out for him, as they fought the storm to save him, they shined a light down onto him and dropped a cable.

The man still refused, insisting that God would intervene and save him...a few seconds later, he went under and drowned.

Upon entering Heaven, he was highly upset. He asked God why he had not delivered him and saved him from drowning after numerous prayers and the faith he had shown in turning down his fellow man and the offer of safety...God simply said...

I sent two ships and a helicopter for you.

Don, the main thing to grasp a hold of, is that good, can, does and well overcome all evil. Some, like me, maybe called to live a life of non violence. But if there are those who are called to be a warrior, then it's very clear as to who is approved by God, and who is not. Because we are told, that 1 can send 1000 to flight, but two can send 10,000 to flight if God is with them. This can be seen with Samson, who killed 1000 men, with the jaw bone of an Ass. But if Samson could have found just one person he could enter into agreement with, the two of them could have easily defeated 10,000. As he did, at the very end of his life. He found one little slave boy to agree with him, and in doing so, he defeated all of his enemys. Look at the story of the Lepers who sat at the gate of the city that was under attack. There was no food, and they figured they were going to die anyways, maybe if they surrendered to the enemy, they would find compassion and the enemy would feed them. But as it turned out, God amplified the sound, and the enemy fled thinking that a mighty army was about to attack them. The Lepers found all the food that they wanted that day to eat. Was it because they were wise enough to "stick a pen in someones eye"? No I don't think so, it was God who made the difference. There is a tremendous power out there, that can overcome all evil, and that is the Goodness of God. He is ready, willing, able and even eager to reveil Himself to those who desire to seek after Him, and draw close to get to know Him. But for those who decide they want to have nothing to do with Him, they well perish in their rebellion against good. Because you can not overcome evil with evil, you can only overcome evil with good. It's a choice everyone has to make. The warriors who come to God, realize they have more power then they every had before, for good reason, because they will be called to go places they never would have gone before. You would stick a pen in a persons eye to blind them. I do not want to blind people, I want to open their eyes, so they can see the truth, I want to open their ears, so they can hear God speak to their heart, I want to loose their tounge, so they can proclaim His praise and Glory, I want to see their lameness healed so they can live and walk in the way that God calls us all walk and live in. No one needs a teacher, but they do need to be willing and open to receive all of what God has for them. Love is going to have the victory, over all anger, hatred, contentions and strife. In simple terms, demons cause people to do harm to others. When you walk with God, you cast those demons out of people, and all of their power will be gone, to do you any harm. As long as you can overcome fear, and perfect love, casts out all fear. So, the bottom line is, the only people who need "carnal" weapons to defend themselves, are those who have not yet been perfected in love and in faith. There are some people who grow old, but there are those who grow up and mature. In Africa, when my pastor was there to hold a miracle healing service, there was a group of witch doctors who got past the security. His security is nothing to mess with either. He is a man of order, and he got angry and started to walk toward them, he raised his hand and said: "You can not do that here". They all fell to the ground. When they managed to get to their feet, they wondered off, some stayed to hear the truth, and some left. But none of them had any desire to attack the pastor anymore. This man is very close to 80 years old, and he does not have anything to fear from anyone. Because if God is for you, who can be against you? There is life giving power in the blood. Atomic bombs can kill, but it takes more power than that, to raise people from the dead. The message is going to go out, and it's a simple message of Gods love. There will be those who receive it, and there will be those who reject it. But no one will be able to get in the way or stop the message from going out to all the world, and even to the very ends of the world as we know it today. In todays high tech world, even one man can take a message to all of the world, even to the very ends. As for Balisong Knives, like someone else said, it's just a tool, that can be used for good, and it can be used for evil. We do not need to take tools away from people, they need them to survive. We need to give them a new heart, that has the desire to do good, all the days of their lives. Thanks, JohnR7 WWW.BalisongKnife.Com

John,

No, I did not say I wanted to blind anyone, I merely said, "The pen is a mighty weapon when placed in someone's eye." If I was forced to do that, it would not be with the intent to blind someone.

"Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
My goodness, and my fortress, my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.
Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Bow thy heavens, O Lord, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows and destroy them.
Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of the great waters, from the hand of strange children;
Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood...

Sounds pacifist to me.

The beauty of the Bible is, you can make it say whatever you wish it to. Good people are good people[some good people are not even "believers" either John], and if they utilize a tool or weapon in exercising their God-given right to self-defense, they are not possessed by demons John.
