I am considering buying an emerson that has the chromium nitride coating, I was wondering what advantages/disadvantages this coating gives. I know emerson only made a few of these knives with this type of coating, so is it an investment also? I would also like to know how it wears compared to the black-t coating? thanks to anyone who can help.................

KEEP EM SHARP OR IT'S USELESS

Chromium nitride (CrN) offers the same corrosion resistance and ease of cutting like the black coatings, for the exception of the color (obviously

) From a manufacturing standpoint, CrN does not require the high temperatures to bake on the coating, so there is no need for post-coating heat treatment to re-adjust the temper. Thus, CrN is cheaper than black.

Derek or Ernie - if there are any other bits of technical info about CrN, please supplement what I said. I'd be interested in knowing more about the technical side of it. TIA.

Derek is "Off Line" for a few days. He's moving.

I'd be interested in more on this coating as well.
