I bought a small survival kit made up by Adventure Medical Kits because the components, together, were cheaper than I could buy separately (unless I bought a bunch of each).

The 20mm button compass (imported from Japan by Sun, I am pretty sure) was non-functioning.

Not a big $$ item, but I decided to call Adventure Med's customer service number. The the rep immediately agreed to send a replacement.

Now, about a week later, a nicely padded envelope arrived with TWO functioning compasses.

So, as is often the case, a problem was an opportunity for a good company to show its class, and Adventure Medical Kits stepped up.

Would that more businesses "got it."

I got a few of their little kits, its neat that they were so responsive to your needs, that makes a great company.

My button compass was nothing special but I just expect those small button compasses don't work 90% of the time. But they do make an overall great product for the money. You can't buy a crappy store bought kit that compares for the same price.

The Japanese button compasses from Sun are pretty good. I have purchased a couple dozen over the years for kits, and they were all accurate enough for such a critter and none were reported back as leaking, although I specifically asked (via a note inside the kits) that I be told if that happened.

I tried some Chinese models from ePrey, and two of six arrived with bubbles, although accurate enough. (A 20 mm button compasses is for rough navigation, right?) Not worth the hassle of trying to get redress, but yet another lesson in sticking to what has worked.
