Hi everyone,
I have been collecting folding knives for about a year now. I mostly have Benchmade, but I really would like to start collecting traditional style pocket and lockback style folding knives. I am wanting to stick to one brand so I am trying to figure out which one. I considered Case and Buck, but I am leaning towards Buck. I live in Southern California and I like the fact that Buck is located out here. They seem like knives that can be used, not just for collecting. This is important to me. I guess I would just appreciate a little input from some of you that collect and use Buck knives. Are there any special knives that are your favorites? Thanks for your time and knowledge. Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt. I have been collecting for a few years now and have gotten hooked on Buck. They not only make a top quality knife but the service they give can't be beat. Buck is a knife that can be used as well as collected. Joe Houser and all the "Buckeroos" are the best. I think a lot of it has to do with their Senior Partner. Happy collecting.

Hi Point Man,
I think I may be able to give you some insights on collecting Buck, I been collecting them for over 30 years. There are several advantages to working on a Buck collection rather than say, Case. Most sellers of used goods, whether it is a yard sale or an estate sale, have a mindset that Case is for collecting and Buck is for using. That means a greater opportunity to buy a knife that may be truly desirable, that is sold simply as a using knife. There is also a real camaraderie and help among Buck collectors that does not exist elsewhere. There is also the fact that Buck has made greater quantities of most models than any other manufacturer; that means there are more of them out there somewhere, other than in collections. I will always answer specific questions in addition to what you can get easily on Blade Forums, reach me at: vtaylor@orland.net

Hi Point Man,

Welcome to the forums. You are on the right track if you are considering collecting Buck knives. They are well made knives with many different types to collect. I myself collect knives that came out of the custom shop at Buck. You should consider joining the Buck Collectors Club. You can receive all the back issues of the newsletter for a modest amount. There is a wealth of info in them. Happy collecting.

Hey Point

Hard for me to post here without sounding self serving but just wanted to welcome you to the buck forum. My family takes great pride in what this company puts out and based on feedback from the collector club the collections of user-knives are more meaningful to me then, say collections of different color handles etc.

We were learning how to improve our product over the years and the product differences may indicate technological advances that oftimes impacted our entire industry.

If you want to see collecting at its best and you can't get to the blade show in atlanta I am sure there will be some pictures posted here. The Buck Collectors absolutely dominate the blade show.

Again...welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm excited to get started on my Buck collection. I appreciate all of your input. I think the Buck collectors club sounds like a good idea. Thanks CJ Buck for the welcome as well. I'm impressed to see you taking the time to listen respond to your customers. What a great selling point for the Buck company. Thanks again. Point Man

Hi Point Man!

You couldn't pick a better or more interesting knife company to collect. I just started seriously collecting Buck knives a little over a year ago and specifically collecting the 110 about six months ago on advise given to me by senior members of the club. They said to pick a series or type and stick by it. Because if you buy every Buck you see you will have a bunch of great knives but not necessarily those you really like. And no, the Buck knives I've purchased since then have not all been 110's, but most have.
There is one big thing to collecting whatever it may be...teddy bears (my wife and I) or moon rocks. Have fun doing it!
