Advice for a novice. "dog" knives and gec schrade.

Snarky? Theres no such word kamagong kamagong ...I dont wish to sound pedanticle but I believe the word you are looking for is unrespectful... perhaps even diplomatically challenging...reception.
Keep in mind the poor guy has ventured into Porchenberg from the hard hittin hi tek super steel gizmo laden world of Hinderers etc...no excuse I know but welcome aboard.

haha I just want something to cut with that has some charm.
Gold! Im pinching that quote.:p:D

Lol...

The term bowie is not one that is used to describe traditional folders. That is why I asked. Hard to give advice without understanding what is wanted.

In any case you shall never receive any help from me. Not after that snarky reception.

Being new to one section of knives, but being from under the same hobby "umbrella", I came hat in hand to the experts, acknowledging my newness to the sub-division. For the most part, "bowie" is a knife term and I did my best to convey what it was looking for in detail, full well knowing I was, again, new to traditionals. If anything, I was the one met with the snark you speak of. Either way, my apologies you feel wronged. Hope you feel better.

Yes. Here's a copy of the literature that came with them and it shows the numbers for most (not all):

Those are amazing. Thank you! I saved them. Those are incredibly cool papers to have to go along with the knife. I had no idea the production was that small. Impressively cool. Thanks again for sharing.

The two hand opening was no big deal to get used to, but for me the biggest issue was the clip free carry combined with the inadequate pockets most of my pants and shorts had.
I knew they sucked but it wasn't a huge deal with the particular modern folder I carried everyday for years.
Having a pocket organizer these days for my other stuff that's where my pocket knife ends up riding , but I am no longer a stranger to having a knife loose in my pocket.

If you do find yourself facing the same issue, theres always pocket slips and clip sheaths and such.

I actually find wanting a two handed opener, or a slow roller. I don't really flick anything open anymore, and appreciate the non attention grabbing methods. I tried one of those pocket organizer things and felt like I was leaning one way as I walked haha! I for the most part try to drop the knife into a pocket by itself when I can. Seems to work well.. unless it falls and carries horizontally in pocket. Then its just awkward.

Shame really.

Let me introduce you to the safety pin method, for carrying knives vertically in your pocket.
Use a safety pin to easily build an internal sheath in your pocket, it allows the comfortable carry of larger knives.

What the f... Does that work!? First time seeing this and, brilliant if it works. That works, doesn't it? Thank you, kind sir. How did I never hear about this before. So simple, but so helpful. I am trying this tomorrow. Thanks again!

I learned it here too, about three years ago.
It is now my go-to method for carrying all my knives.
I've even done a double pin for carrying two knives when the need arises.

Oh hell, no.

If you can't sew, and you're SO can't either, or there's nobody in the family who's ever seen a needle and thread, then spend $5 and take your pants to a tailor and have them put a 2" seam in whatever pocket you carry a knife in. My tailor does it whenever I get a new set hemmed, for nothing. It's actually a good thing to do even if you don't carry a knife, because it keeps your keys in place (unless you're one of those who carries a dozen keys (why you'd carry more than three these days I can't understand.)

I'd just like to say, since making this thread I have a list of about a half dozen knives that I now need. All of which I did not exist half a second prior to this thread. Dying for a GEC #23 single bladed beaver in that cherry. I just checked every seller on GEC's approved list.

And I am also in dire need of the Northfield Bull Lock. Again, didn't know it existed prior. Anyone (stupid question, I know) know anything about this knife? I can't find it in stock anywhere. Can't even find many that sell/sold it. Another phantom like the GEC made Schrade autos?

Gotcha. Thank you. I am not very active on the forums anymore, so I guess I am doomed haha! Yeah, I figured the price would be a bit more. I am ok with that.

Sorry if you don't get the terminology or if it doesn't fit your pedantic word choice when it comes to traditional folders. Bowie is used as a term for a certain blade shape. Hinderer also uses this term. Good luck figuring out things.

Outstanding! Thank you!

I do like his suggestion. Appreciate the understanding.

I like that Queen Cutlery #6, from an initial image search. I am going to look further into that one too! Very helpful! Thank you.

Haha thanks for the welcome. I have an old, small slipjoint my father gave me as a child. Love it. And like the charm of a slip joint. I think you may be right about the size reasons. I know I tried a 5" traditional and it seemed massive. So I compromised and went down to a 4" or so. haha

Minimize, you are correct in that "Bowie" is a knife term but a "Bowie" knife is type of fixed blade knife, not a blade shape/style....thus some of the discussion above. I assume you are thinking of a clip point which is one of the hallmarks of a Bowie knife....but please understand that all Bowie Knives (should) have a clip point but not all clip points are Bowie knives. Get a good grounding in traditional folders by reviewing the resources on the Porch...for a start check the A.G. Russell data including the guide on blade shapes/styles and that will help you greatly.
