Hi there,

I'm looking for a new EDC folder. I'd need some input from you (buncha maniacs ;) )

Here's what I'm looking for:

- 3" range (not less than 2.5", no more than 3.5");
- Hard and tough stainless steel (154CM, ATS-34, you name it) at about 57-59 RC;
- Thin blade, preferably flat grind, with drop point or something close to that;
- Smooth one hand opening, with HOLE in the blade (no studs, they suck IMO);
- Slim handle with clip;
- Tough lock...

Anyone knows about a knife that would look like that (say under 150$)?

Thanks! :)

David

I'll be the first to reccomend the benchmade mini-griptilian or griptilian, everyone seems to like them. It's 440c, but I have benchmade 43 in 440c and it holds a good edge.

Spyderco Ti Salsa and Lil' Temperance both *almost* meet your criteria. The Ti Salsa has a blade of just under 2.5" and the Lil' Temperance is thicker than most knives of similar size.

spyderco delica. best damn knife around :-)

i have the carbon fiber version and a FRN version, both are top notch

Once I tried to make a Opinel one-handed by putting a stud verticaly, near the base of the blade, but it didn´t work, I´ll give it another try some day.

As for your question, I´ll vote for the Delica, I have one FRN in VG-10 and it´s quite good.

Maybe a little bit too small...

But what about the Spyderco Dragonfly ?

Regards,

Andre Tiba

Spyderco Calypso Jr.
2.95" blade;
opening hole in blade;
FRN handle;
full flat grind VG10 blade.

440C... Hmmm... It's hardenable only to 57-58... That could do it. But I don't like the handle. Too thick, too bright. But thanks for the input, James. Nice try ;^)

Yeah... almost meet my criteria ;)

I think Spydies are not worth the buck. They're above average knives, but certainly not so good that I would pay their price. The first one I bought (many years ago) had written "Seki City Japan" on the blade. At first I thought that the high price came from importation, travel and change... Now I know better ;)

Cheers,

David

Good knife indeed, but not worth it's price. But it's a lot closer to my criteria, thanks for the input jestyr ;)

Interesting! :)

Curving the wooden handle down might do it, no? I'll give that a try some day!

Thanks!

Save your money get a Sebenza.

Well... They're great knives, FAIK. Never had one between my dirty hands. How does it feel? ;)

Anyways: I can't afford to pay 300$ for a knife. That settles the question.

Thanks Scott Dog...

Hmmmm... That's very close to what I'm looking for. 59-60 RC is awesome (hope it's not too breakable, though). Not too expensive.

Only problem: it's a sabre grind, not a flat grind. But since the blade is so thin (.1"), that could do it.

Nice input, OwenM. Thanks.

You can't afford not to get it. You'll spend way more than $300 trying to figure out what you want. You get what you pay for. For values sake, the BM 940 is a lot of knife for the money.

I can't afford to get it either.

What's so, so cool about this knife, specifically, that would motivate me to spend 300 of my dollars to get it?

David

i like the new Buck/Mayo. it has a hole and every other criteria you're looking for! or that strider sng has a hole and a stud (or the SMF but i dont know if thats publically available). but of course i'd say spend the extra$ and get a sebenza!!!!

Get the leek, it does it with class,and all for $40.:cool:

I think you should give the Delica a little closer look before discounting it, JMHO.
