Advice for small EDC knife

I EDC a SAK also and carry another blade for general use. Of late I have been carrying the CRKT Razel Stubby which is made in China but seems to be a pretty well made knife and it seems to hold an edge pretty well.

I have been very pleased with the SOG Twitch II for a small fast knife. I like the Spyderco Delica also, but my choice has always been the larger Endura when I want a larger blade. I'd say if you are planning hard use, I'd go with the Delica or it you just want something fast, sharp and small in your pocket, the Twitch II.

The other SOG blade that I really like that is small (and flat) is the Access Card 2.0 which is available with a sheepsfoot blade or tanto. I personally like the sheepsfoot blade for my use, but I claim no skills in fighting nor do I want any.

have you looked at any of the CRKT folding knives? Most are from China or Tiawan, but not bad for a EDC.

Well u are kinda convincing me about the Dragonfly.... :D but in case u didn't, so far it seems like the ones left on the cheaper side (that fit my idea) are the Leatherman C33, the SOG Blink, and the Boker. Any more feedback?
Another thing...does anyone have any experience with locking SAK?
Thanks :)

I'd suggest the Benchmade Mini-Grip. Blade is just under 3" and axis lock. Oh, I see you require under 2.5" blade. Take a look at some of the Byrd knives by Spyderco. The Robin might fit your needs.

I once had one of the smaller Wenger SAKs with a locking blade. Not a big Ranger, but I think it was an Evolution S14. The lock was good for normal use, but I never tested it heavily.

Updating the "cheap" list...somehow I'm realizing that I'm looking for a short but wide blade for this EDC even tho I don't know why....
- Leatherman C33
- SOG Twitch
- Boker Plus Subcom
- Buck Transport
- CRKT Shrimp
- Kershaw Half Ton
- Benchmade 10610 Benchmite
- Sanrenmu 614
And one more thing....anyone familiar with the CRKT Flux?
Thanks guys

Thanks for the advice dude...but the Izula is a fixed blade and I'm looking for a folder....and the Sage is way above my price cap...
Meanwhile, the cheap list has narrowed down. I am considering buying the knife in the US and getting it in a couple of months when I will be able to travel....
- Leatherman C33
- SOG Twitch
- Boker SubCom
- Benchmade 10610
- Buck Transport
Also, I'm still considering the CRKT Flux option with a knife...
So I guess I need more help :-)

Check out the spyderco delica. It is a great little knife. If the looks of spyderco turn you off( I love them but some people dont)then check out the benchmade mini griptilian. I have one in my edc rotation and love it. I bought one for my step dad a while back and he is in love with the knife. I think the axis lock on the griptilian is more fun to mess around with than the back lock on the delica which is a plus for me.

I have to say I took the Kershaw Half Ton off the list cause I really don't like the red handle, otherwise it looked alot like the cheap short wide and realtively thick locking blade I am looking for.. :-)
Thanks

I do own an alox "solo" SAK (don't remember if it's the Pioneer or Cadet, I got it recently...it's good to have friends who work at security checkpoints in airports) but it doesn't lock, and I am in search for a shorter blade (the SAK is 9cm).
An alox SAK like a Pioneer has the blade of almost 7cm, with around 6.2 cm cutting edge
(Off topic, for the security checkpoints in airports, idiotic rules and thieves like that keep me away from plane travel)

The red is part of this little guy's charm.
It's one of the most fun folders I've owned.
I bought a second to keep the first one company.

I usually don't care too much of the looks in this kind of EDC knife (I save my aesthetic sense for custom handmade knives) but for some reason the red handle turned me off....even tho as I said the Half Ton suits most of my needs...
iYes, I was totally wrong about the length of the SAK, actually it's 9cm overall...I actually meant that what I was looking for is a short wide thick blade, while SAK are slender (not really long as Jacktrades points out with full reason), narrow and thin blades.
Somehow I am reconsidering getting an Ambitious in the US and waiting for it for some more time...any more feedback on this Spyderco?
Thanks again :-)

The baby of the Tenacious line; all four are excellent and not just for the money. Just pick the size you want.

About the same size but priced a bit more than the Half Ton, with the same steel but with a Spydie hole instead of thumb studs and black scales instead of red.

Not as thin as the uberlight but more expensive Dragonfly. The clip is silver and just a bit garish compared to the D'fly's more discreet wire clip.

If you are a Spydie fan, the Ambitious or the Dragonfly are good choices in that size.

How about a Spyderco Native, it has a nice wide blade, around 8cm blade, but under 7cm cutting edge
Also, the handle on this one is beefier than the slimmer Delica
Here is my Native 3, been using this real hard, usually I have it clipped on my clothes at home, because is very light.

Thanks for the comparison picture of the Native and a 111mm Victorinox. Puts the Native on my wish list. :)

Cold steel mini lawman. Here in Italy costs a little bit more than 50€ but is an excellent cheap choice... ;)

Thanks for ur help guys...
I may decide to wait some time (might buy this EDC in the US - if I find the way to get it here - which would surely enlarge the range of "possible" knives) but still u helped me alot. Here it's not that easy to actually see a knife (and therefore weigh it, handle it - it takes a second to know if a knife fits ur hand or not) cause there's no big market, so any suggestion helps me get a better idea.
I will let u know once I decide and get it...
:-)
p.s.: anyone has the Ka Bar mini Dozier folder?
