advice for tiny knife

What is a good knife for a pocket survival kit. I used to think the victrinox officer was just fine , but now I realize it has unnecessary weight and is not as sturdy as it should be for this choice. I assume I will always have my regular knives with me when I'm camping, but nonetheless I need to put some micro knife in the kit for principal . any suggestions?

How about a Spyderco Police necklace knife. Really small, really light and really sharp. Mine locks up tight too. They turn up on Ebay regularly

A splendid 'micro' knife is the AG Russell Ultimate Penknife. Mine is the original version sans shackle which makes for an extemely flat profile. I carry it in my wallet where it 'disappears' until called upon and it's far better in this role than the various credit card style knives.
With a titanium handle and a razor sharp VG10 blade, it has proven to be invaluable as its utility far outweighs its appearance or cost.

would be for a PE Spyderco Native in S30V. Small size, built tough, and cuts great, it's my EDC.

i guess i'll be the one to say, i don't think you should have too small of a knife in a survival kit.
maybe look @ the Bark River Mikro-Canadian. a little over 5 inches overall. and it will serve you much better than any of the folding knives mentioned so far.

keeping it small is one thing, but i believe the knife is something you should not skimp on. especially when used in the same sentence as the word "survival".

My suggestion. SS Kiwi. Can whittle, pick out splinters. Nice fine point for anything precise and is a SS lockback so quite strong. I have the Jigged bone but for cost factor the SS would be better. Or as Sal said the Jester. Also I would say SS. Has more belly and could also be used for skinning out game. I have a friend that swears by his. In fact he bought his father one too. They have been through some serious abuse those poor little Jesters. Take Care!!!

Blindedbythelite,I tried to put your quote in my response but don't know how. This micro knife is for a tiny pocket survival kit for when I'm camping, My pocket knife will be on me, and probably a sheath knife, this one has to be tiny so I won't leave it out of the kit. My habit is to carry a small camera pouch on my belt and never take it of during the whole trip, If the bag becomes too heavy or bulky I'll start taking it off and leaving it at the campsite. thanks guys for the responses I'm getting

That ag russell ultimate penknife seems to be what I'm looking for, .2 oz, flat, yet it looks tough. It would also be good for the sardine can survival kit I intend to do. Thanks guys

The russell seems to be the one for the kit, but the kiss or the cricket I want on my key chain.

i understand now. i was just worried about you for a second there. didn't want you to have to rely on something so tiny, and a folder! :footinmou

You can take the clip off the SS cricket and lose that in wallet, too. But the blade shape is aggressive enough for an EDC in an office environment.

I second the Jester or a Lady Bug. I do have a Mini Police in my Med Kit!

Spyderco.
Ultimately go with what you want...sounds like you are almost set on the AG Russell:) Take Care and good luck in your search.

I agree with the folks who have suggested the Spyderco Jester. It's a little thicker than the Ultimate Pen Knife, but offers a vastly superior grip. The Spyderco Ladybug is good too, but not quite as good in that one critical area.

The limitations of really small knives are almost never related to the size of the blade, they are all about how well you can hold on to them. Spyderco pretty well owns that particular competition with more ergonomically-designed small knives than everyone else put together.

The Ultimate Pen Knife might be the way to go if you absolutely need something ultra compact, but otherwise I would go with the Jester. If you can live with a bit more weight and bulk you might want to consider one of the scissor multitools such as the Leatherman Mirca or Squirt or the SOG Crosscut.
