First, just a quick heads up... I'm actualy not new to the forum, I joined during the winter of 2007 as a Gold Member, but I've been offline since last summer and I cant remember ANY of my login details... and haven't gotten any feedback regarding how to go about accessing the other account. All I can really remember about that account is that I had a picture of Stewie from Family Guy as my avatar! Anyway, enough about that, on to the reason for the post...
I bought a Mora 2000 last winter and loved it, though I thought the blade was a bit long for my taste. It was my first scandi, and I loved the characteristics of the edge. A friend of mine fell in love with it, too, and I felt generous so I gave it to him as a gift. Since then I have been wanting another scandi, but haven't really acted on it (my last purchase was an absolutely beautiful custom hunter from Fritz Price in Honesdale, Pennsylvania... it more or less depleted my blade purchasing account for a while. I don't have it with me at the moment, but will be back in Florida for a visit in a few weeks and will post pictures).
I know there are a lot of manufacturers and artists out there to choose from, but I figured a lot of you guys would have a good idea of a direction to head in. I'm looking for a single bevel with a fairly robust blade thickness, nice full handle (preferably a light colored or burly wood), and a blade between 3"-4". If I find what I'm looking for, I'll be using it as my primary bushcraft knife, along with a nice Nepalese kukuri for chopping tasks.
Most scandis seem to have a fairly thin blade, and I'm looking for something a bit thicker. Also, the vast majority of scandis have a very skinny tang... Other than dropping the blade's weight, I don't understand the reason for this, and would like a full tang, possibly visible between two handle scales. I haven't seen many of these, but I know they're out there somewhere...
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, and I know we ALL love pictures!!!
Much thanks in advance!!
