I bought a duke mastodon ltd edition of Ebay in 3rd September. Now as I live in the UK this was shipped to my PayPal verified address (A friend ) in the USA which was then shipped to me in the UK.

Upon arrival the rear of the slab seem to have come away from the knife.

The seller agreed to take it back for full refund, however upon escalating the claim for my protection has since ignored me and somehow managed to win the case in his favour. Now the only way this could of happened is because the knife got shipped from USA to USA to UK at which point i MAY lose my protection. Or knives are not covered under PayPal.

However this doesn’t stop the seller from doing the “right thing” the knife was not cheap $339. I for one suffer from OCD knives in my possession have to be near perfect for me to be happy with them and this is by far from perfect.

It looks like I’m not going to get anywhere with PayPal so I have couple of options sell it on and cut my losses or sell it to somebody who has the tools to repair, or make a fool out of the seller on social media but I’m a little more mature than that.

Wouldn't Buck fix that if you sent it to them?

Nice knife.......
What kind of shape was it in when your friend got it?
I'm thinking if it was received in good condition then, the sellers responsibility ends there.
I agree, I wouldn't do the mud throwing thing..... But by posting their name sorta are.
Sorta one of the reasons I avoid the bay.
Good luck.

Since it has a coa, Buck would fix it.

Otherwise some loctite epoxy, a toothpick, some xziline and a clamp would do the repair.

I never thought of that..thanks for the option.

Do you happen to know who/how I can get this done?

Thank you

I very much doubt the transit shipment from USA to UK has caused the damage since it was packaged perfectly. There is no physical chips dents etc. We are a forum so it’s best I enlighten the situation here rather than thousands of people through FB groups. I definitely do not want the situation to happen to one of you.

Ebay generally has been great so apart from this occasion.

Did it come with the COA? The OP doesn't say one way or the other.

1) PayPal will not protect you. Stop using them. There are other options, if you buy from a legitimate business.

2) Never buy off the Bay. There may be honest sellers there, but they are few and far between.
Most of the honest sellers have their own website you can buy at, and there just might be a better selection on their website.

3) Contest the charge against your credit/debit card at your bank. You might have better luck at getting a return authorization and refund.

I think the best thing to do is contact Buck and have them fix it.

I'm not saying that this is the case with your knife but I have had a few knives that were perfect when packed for shipping in the UK and when I opened them here in the US the handles were warped. Those knives had horn handles and I think horn is pretty sensitive to weather changes. I don't know if the mastodon has that same sensitivity or not.

I will get in contact with Buck/Joe see if they can do anything to make it look great again.

Guys thanks for the support

Steven65 Steven65 i was on British blades but that went bump.. il take a look on that site.

Thanks

1 is wrong. PayPal actually leans towards the buyer most of the time, as most people could tell you. I've had thousands of transactions through PayPal and zero issues.

2 is completely wrong. Majority of Ebay sellers are honest and you will never get scammed if you know how to read even the slightest bit. This is just a unique situation.

I fall into the "send it to buck" category.

Did you pay with a credit card through PayPal?

Your should always do it that way. You can do a chargeback and your credit card company will protect you against this type of thing.

I agree with the above. E-bay protects the buyer and is tough on sellers.

Seems like that would've showed up in the pictures on ebay. As mentioned previously it may have been climate change (no pun intended) during shipping.
Did your friend open it and check it or did he just forward it on to you?

It wouldn't be difficult to add some glue (not just any glue) and be done with it.
Otherwise I'd contact Buck.

No pictures from that angle on the Ebay photos only side portrait... which looking back was convenient

My friend is a well known buck guy however he’s doesn’t spend to much time examining mine just packages them up together and sends to me.

Hopefully it wasn't done with mal intent, though aggravating at least its not a difficult remedy.
