Advice needed: Best way to handle very deluded customers

I have not had many issues with things like this really, other than he odd "can you make me a sword folded 1000 times, they can cut right through an anvil you know". In those cases I just tell them that isn't physically possible, and if it was they probably would not want to pay the cost to make it. On the dealing with unstable customers part that is a bit different. Just last month I had a guy asking me repeatedly if I would make a titanium machete for him. He was very persistent and said " I will give you like 75 bucks man." He said he needed to clear some brush at his farm. When I finally told him I could not do it at his price point, and asked why he would not just buy a cheap one at a store for his one time project, he said its because he can't legally buy weapons in a store due to some previous crazy thing he did. I ended it with saying I couldn't do it for his price, and could not get steel that big so I was not able to help him in any way. He said that was fine and hasn't bothered me since. I have known the guy for some time now, and never would have though he was a danger, but it just shows that you never really know who you are dealing with these days.

Tell him to call Wolverine and ask him for his source! ;)

hahaha This is exactly what I was thinking.

This customer is totally pulling your leg. I mean, he's asking for a metal that only exists in the Marvel Universe... I think the sooner you begin to ignore him the sooner he will go away.

I'm really sorry for your situation, but on the flip side, this hilarious comedic interlude made my day!
Adamantium, geesh, everyone knows a light saber is way better.... just saying....:D

No, no, adamantium exists! I saw a knife by Shiva Ki, I think, and pretty sure it was adamantium. If Shiva Ki didn't make it, I bet Don Hanson III did! Haha..

Block his calls, block his email, if you know his name and where he lives, and it gets to that level take out a no contact/order of protection in either your jurisdiction or his (either is appropriate) preferrably his as he needs to be served before it goes into effect. Then if he contacts you have him charged appropriately.
Most likely he will geek out on the responding officers, get tazed and stuck on a 72 hour mental health hold.
By the way, putting any kind of weapon knowingly into an unstable persons hands isn't just bad juju... it is most likely illegal...

Could always offer to make him some from Aluminium... which is basically just what europe calls Aluminum (both names are valid). They say it: owl-you-men-eee-uhm :D

Tell him you don't work in adamantium because it wears out your grinder.

OR

Tell him this guy

cornered the market and there is no stock available.

You're welcome.

It sounds like he is mentally ill, possibly bipolar. You should probably block his calls, and if he shows up, notify the police. If he is ill, he will end up in mental health services, not corrections.

Or you could tell him that if he wants to personally trap Wolverine and cut one of his claws off, you'll make the knife...

You could just give him a very high price them make it from 5160 and let him call it what ever he wants to call it. Just don't put your name on it...

OP - This isn't really a shop talk thread.

Guys - most of the chatter in this thread is silly. There is no BF rule that says you have to post nonsense in reply when others post it.
