advice needed for camp knife edc knife

Maybe get a bare blade F-1 or H-1 and put your own scales or get somebody to do it. If you like finger grooves try this. Also should have a pretty stout tip. It is stainless, but I don't think you mentioned either way. It should at least be decent if HT'd right. I have a few 440c knives and have no problems with them. It's a cheaper knife, but it's a thick stout knife, you could convex the edge. Not endorsing this one at all, just remembered it from an article. It seemed to be more like what you are looking for.

For that price if ya don't like it you won't be out a lot.

Fonly, those Bucks always looked so classy to me. I had the rubber handled one many years ago, served me well til I lost it. I was a teen then. Much more careful now. :)

did you see my post?:D

its a good knife, I found it a bit small but it takes a nice edge and holds it.

i haven't had a chance to use one but i heard that its probably one of the best overall camp knife you can buy if you don't plan on chopping.

I'm kinda of leaning towards rat or canadian belt knife. More and more towards rat since everyone on here is so keen on that knife.

Wow I didnt expect the Canadian Belt Knife to be that cheap. Good knife for the price..I just dont like the irregular shape, but you wanted a 4 inch blade and thats it, Good knife. Although I thought you said you wanted a finger guard...

Again cant go wrong with RAT. I have just went through what you are going through about 3 months ago looking for the best all around camp/edc fixed blade for around $100. after looking around and picking up every thing from buck knives to benchmade I went with the RC-4 by RAT cuttlery and I have found the perfect knife for me. Great weight hold one hella edge tough as nails and a bullet proof lifetime no questions asked guarentee plus the most alsome sheath I have ever used. Find a RAT you wont look back.

And no noone is voting on the canadian belt knife

Do you think its too thick to do camp chores like peel apples etc..

found a place that makes canadian belt style knife with semi finger guard style at 50 bucks half price because of imperfection in rose wood handles. If I'm picking up the knife its for its irregullar design, supposedly that odd design is just down right awesome for everyday task. That rat knife will outlast and eat up the canadian belt knife when it comes to task like splitting logs prying etc..

You can always contact a custom knifemaker from this site and tell them your design or modify one of theirs to meet your liking. Check out the custom fixed blade sale area and see if something catches your eye and send out a few emails or PMs.

So which one are you wanting more...A Rat or the Canadian Bk?
You should go with your instincts.

The Grohmann No. 1 is excellent. I recommend it in response to queries like this all the time. Go for the carbon steel option if you can. The No. 2 and No. 3 are also great (and the No. 4 if you're looking for something bigger). I find the blade and handle shapes to be highly functional, particularly for detail work and food prep.

So, there you go. I'm voting for the Grohmann.

All the best,

- Mike

i'm thinking that a canadian knife is not the choice for tactical sh*t hit the fan sort of deal. the rat is a great knife without a question handled one in the store, high quality product. Problem, probably not as efficient in everyday task as the canadian knife is at most task, this does not mean is not capable knife. EDC people give you all sorts of weird looks when have a big chunk of steel that looks tactical on your belt, the canadian a safer bet. So I'm torn here, maybe i will just end up using both.
