Advice needed on Mid West.

During this time of the year the North rim is probably closed for snow and getting to the South rim might be a chore depending on the weather conditions there. From Phoenix it is approx. a 5-6 hour drive on a good day. The last time I visited the Canyon it was all shuttle service to the look out points. I have also done the helicopter thing. It was expensive and lasted approx. 30mins and they are not allowed to fly into the canyon. Arizona is an open carry state...pretty much anything goes as long as it is openly displayed.

I'm a bit apprehensive about driving over there, different side of the road,

I didn't have problem switching to the right side of the road. After all, respectively, you are still sitting on the same side of the car. Changing gears with the right hand is probably the only motor skill to be learned. You will have to concentrate a little more but it's not a huge challenge.

The real problem occurs when you get back home. I spent quite a few minutes on the wrong side of the road back in Oz when I came home, having relaxed a little - with a few close shaves to boot.
