Advice on a new EDC?

It gets more exciting when you rationalize carrying two, then three knives and a flashlight for edc. :D
You'll be happy with the spydie

Too late...

How about the Kershaw Black Out? Or Blur? Or Avalance? All are great knives!

I hadn't heard a whole lot about the Kershaws, and what I got about Spydercos was unanimously good, not so for Kershaw. Plus I'm leery of the 410 and 440A steel...

Oops, my bad. On my other forums if I double post it just adds the second post as an edit to the first. :(

Madcap Magician made a very good choice with the Spyderco Centofante III.

The Centofante is a great knife for light/medium use, cardboard, etc.
I've been EDCing mine for a few months now, and for me it works very well.

Just got my hands on a Spyderco Calypso Jr. and love the little bugger. Sharp as heck outta the box, lightweight, smooth action (love the spider hole). After working with this knife, I see no real need for an assisted opener for utility work, particularly since you won't need to worry about the extra parts breaking, loosening up, whatever. If you're still interested in a Caly Jr. you may want to head on over to the Spyderco site and grab one for $35 (free shipping) as the in-stock availability seems to fluctuate with no way of knowing when it's permanent.
