Advice on a potential gec purchase.

Honestly that's not even the crazy part! After me responding with "why the hostile message?", the seller messaged back again, apologizing because he thought I was "a bad buyer". Which I suppose is a fair caution to have. But then he fallows it up with;

"its little worn other than the blades peppery corrosion.
I bought this knife 2 years ago... thinking they were great-carried for about 3 months. it started rusting after 2 weeks.....these great easterns are shelf sitting junkers as far as I am concerned."

I'm certainly not one to pass judgments, so I'll just leave it at, to each his own.

Yah I've been keeping my eye open on the exchange, however the #26's dont seem to pop up to often, and especially not used.
It seems that gecs that get used, are hung onto and used for years. [emoji106]
I'll get a hold of him and trade him a brand new schrade that won't rust for that "shelf sitting junker"

If it's legit that seems like a pretty sweet buy to me. Any knife that you can buy for half price that has over 90% of the life left is a good deal in my book. If somebody offered you a F-150 with 20,000 miles on it for $12,000 you'd call that a steal. I'd put this in the same category. Let somebody else take the losses for having the knife be brand new while you get all the benefits of the longevity of a well made knife. That's what being a savvy consumer is all about. ;) When that knife gets to you take a little time and clean those blades up and you'll never know it wasn't babied from day one.

VERY well said Cory Hess! :thumbup:
Just trying to work out the sale with the seller. If i do end up getting the knife, I'll definitely post my thoughts here.
In the meantime, i just want to thank everyone for all the feedback! :)

Those blades and bolsters just need a good polishing with some Simichrome or Flitz paste. That knife would look great afterwards. :thumbup:

Just an update for those who have been reading;
It looks like I won't be getting my hands on the knife afterall. The sale unfortunately fell through.
Oh well, live and let live.
I'll just have to keep an eye out here on the forum. :thumbup:

Sorry to hear that, Gearhead. Good luck in your quest for that elusive 26. :thumbup:
