I am a hobbyist knife maker and typically have been doing CPM3V, zfinit, aebl etc. Looking for general advice on Belt selection.

I understand the logic basics but looking more for the I go from 36, 80, 220 etc or whatever you typically step up.

I typically have been doing final hand-sanding but would like to be able to finish at a 600grit on the machine.

Thanks in Advance.

50 cubitron, 120 cubitron. If hand sanding then I go to a 220 regalite. If belt finish I go to trizacts, a100, a65, then cork 400 grit or scotch brite.

I have zero luck getting a decent finish with the j weight belts over 220. The trizacts seem to be more forgiving. Norax belts are similar in how they act as if they are cushioned a bit but they don't last as long as the trizacts it seems.

Typically you can double the grit each time hand sanding or grinding. 50-60, 120, 220, 400, 800 etc... I finish my hand rubbed blades at 400-600 so I come off the grinder at 220-400.
