advice on flashlights

Mini Q40 eLED Dive Light or Mini Q40 Dive Light? Just want to know what are the pro and cons of both these 2 models. And is the Q40 eLED just as bright as Q40?

I am currently in Iraq just north of Baghdad. I had a mag light and the thing basically fell apart. The crooked neck "army" flashlights just dont cut it. I ended up breaking down and getting a Sure Fire with LED bulb. I swear by them. Little expensive, but they do the job. Thinking about getting another one, but a little bigger.

Those L-shapred jobs were junk forty years ago and seem not to have improved. Defective design?

Name-brand LED's are the way to go. They have no filament to break and convert almost 100% of juice to light so batteries last MUCH longer. And while they were once pretty short-range, the newer ones are much brighter much further out.

get the UK 4AA eLED. i have one and it is one of the best flashlights i own. it is rated to 90 meters (i think) and is regulated so it will run for 20 hours at near peak performance.

I camp once a month and supply lighting for two boys with the destructive power of an adult male grizzly bear. After an increasingly more expensive series of lights was destroyed/lost, I went with energizer brand led head lamps for them. So far so good, at at cost of $10 I'm not heartborken if they get lost and having them mounted on their heads seems to have kept the damage down.

I use one too, but carry a surefire a2 aviator and microlight II in blue. I like the 2-stage operation of the aviator. It does NOT get loaned out.

Head lamps are a great suggestion. They are available in LED under $15.00 now (much more durable than incandescent and batterries last many x longer).

I carry one of the UK4AA eLED in each backpack and a Surefire 6P goes along for when more lumens are required. The UK 4AA is good all night on one set of batteries, the 6P isn't, but I don't need it all night.

Around home I have a 3D mag light with one of the Epieon LEDs, very nice and very bright for an LED.

Go to the Jerzeedevil forums (caution, freaks inside :D ) and PM this guy, "Beau T" I think. That guy is knows his shi7

Ask him you build you a light, to your specs. ;) He does work for pretty cheap.

The Yellow/ Black Streamlight 4AA has seven LEDs, made in the USA, it's waterproof, floats, gives you a very useable beam the seems to last forever. With its lifetime warranty all this for 20 bucks whats not to like. It even comes with four copper top AAs that you can get anywhere.. In fact everyone that gets their hands on it wants one. We have used them in extreme weather conditions and takes it all in stride. Got mine at Costco last year. In anycase LEDs are the way to go....

I'd get the UK4AA eLED over the Streamlight Propolymer 4AA 7LED.
I have both but you can't beat the very white, regulated light of the UK light.
I think there is an issue with the Streamlight being overdriven.

ARC AAA or look for a CMG (now Gerber) Sonic. AAA batteries are easy to store and fairly easy to come by. If you want to go with a AA CMG/Gerber Infinity (Ultra if you can find it.) LED is the only way to go and these CMGs are very reasonably priced.
