Advice on hiking boots and a new pen.

There are three things that matter in boots: fit, fit & fit.
Get a pair that fits!
I had to go to Nicks Boots in Spokane to achieve it, after years and thousands of $ spent on good quality production boots.

For pens? Hinderer Kubaton!

The Lamy 2000 is a little more than $30, but that's a super-nice pen. I wrote with a fountain version today. Exquisite. Furthermore, it's a piece of history. Since going into production in 1966, the design hasn't changed (fountain pen, that is...the ballpoint, pencil, and rollerball were all added later).

Ever.

That's pretty bad considering that the ST Dupont is a $400 pen, though the Chinese lacquer is fragile
Metal capped pen around $30? Cross Century II/Townsend
Fisher AG 7

I have 14 EE feet and wear an older pair of sundowners that I am still very happy with. I did just pick up a pair of dunham boots on sierra for cheap (cloud9 I think) that I am using for lighter duty than my sundowners. They seem to fit me well.
On a sidenote I found out that Dunham is owned by New Balance so they carry extended sizes and widths in their lines.
I also have a couple of pair of dunham trail shoes that I really like.
I am at a point where unless I know how the brand fits or they are extremely cheap I try hard use boots on first. I am tired of ill fitting shoes on long days.

I also have a newer generation of sundowners, and they're the ones made in china, not italy. I've only had them 3 years, and the leather is.. well... not italian.

Right now, I'm looking at the Scarpa SL M3's. You may want to check them out. They're a little heavier than the sundowners, but they look similar, and they have a vibram sole, so you won't be slipping on every wet surface you come across.

Michael, I like big pens, and found a real nice one at Walmart for under $15. It's a Parker top cap in gun metal grey and writes very smooth. I bought a couple extra fillers at the same time for future use.

I have always liked Danners...the fit and way they hold up.
and Vasque....had a pair I couldn't wear out that I did outgrow and my son grew into...
If there is a Red Wing store near you, it might be worth the trip to check out what they have (got my Vasque there years ago) and they do a good job of fitting you....almost always..
I am no longer a dedicated hiker but a wel broken in pair of hiking boots is awful comfortable when it gets a little chilly out....
Just my thoughts....

I'm going with a pair of Danner Agitators, for off-duty, for my birthday in about a month.

I currently wear Danner Strikers on duty, they're great; light, fast, supportive and durable.

For the past four years I wore Danner Acadias on duty. They were fine, but very heavy, and I found that they didn't give the ankle support where I needed it.

Bottom line on Danners: they are high quality kit and they wear like IRON.

Both my daily carry pens are Fishers, one Bullet and one Astronaut.

I didn't know parker made a top cap pen (that wasn't fountain). I checked their website and didn't see any. Do you have any links to pictures where I can see one of these online? I would like to try one of these too.
