I've just started throwing knives and would like to make my own. I was hoping for advice on what to use and how to make my throwing knives.

What type steel should I use?
Should I forge them or do stock removal?
Do I heat treat them and if YES what do you recommend for the suggested steels?

Please feel free to email me at joe.schwatka@navy.mil

Thank you for any and all help!

Use any super tough steel, such as 1050, 5160, L6, S7. Heat treat to whatever Rockwell is ideal for the toughness required.

I've made throwing knives for myself and if I do it again I'm gonna do it as quick-easy-cheap as I can. I'd recommend stock removal. Grind a decent tip, do not put more of an edge than a butter knife and would not bother to heat treat. Your knives WILL hit each other, the ground and anything else within several feet of the target.

Sent via telegraph with the same fingers I use to sip whiskey.
