I have always carried a traditional case. Looking to upgrade my edc. I work in an office so I am looking for a lighter weight, deep carry clip, that is not too large. I am thinking that the bugout looks like a good option. Any others I should consider?

Hard to beat the Bugout. Check out the Valet if you want something smaller, 940 if you want something bigger, but I prefer the Bugout with upgraded scales. It's a better slicer as well.

Bugout is awesome.
A smaller option is a mini grip, and a 555hg with the sheepsfoot blade is great.
I work on an office environment and those are the two I carry most.
( For the mini grip you can write benchmade and request a deep carry clip)

all suggestions above are great. I would add mini-crooked river if you like wood. I have mini-grip and regular grip which are both good too. All of mine have deep pocket clip as well.

not sure if it’d be up your alley, but check out a 490 arcane. it has aluminum scales, the deep carry pocket clip you’re looking for, and the axis assist combined with the minimal flipper tab makes it an easy to use and very fun knife to own. the blade is 3.3”, has a good high grind making it an excellent slicer, and is s90v, so it holds its edge for quite a while with minimum maintenance.

The mini crooked river is one of my favorite knives. Plus the wood makes it a bit more office friendly, as wood is more normal looking then a straight black handle.

So come on.

535 bugout for sure. With upgraded scales. I have one with rogue blade works carbon scales however there is some nice ti/micarta/g10 options if that suits you more. My 535 /w rogue scales is 1.9oz and a lot sturdier. I also have a 535 with the blue plastic scales and the only problem I have with it is that the stock scales feels kindve cheap/flimsy. Stock they're strong enough but never felt 100% right in hand.

I like the sheepsfoot mini-grip for EDC use. If you want to class it up, get some aftermarket scales or work out something in the custom shop. I really like the FRN scales from BM and I think their G10 options aren't good and are over-priced but I know plenty of people don't like the FRN.

Any of benchmades knives can get a free deep carry clip if you ask benchmade. They will send one out for free.

As far as a stock choice, the valet seems like one of their classiest knives. I think the 940-1 might be next up. I like the looks of the crooked river but I think clip points remind people of hunting knives and are ill received in office environments.

The bugout is also a good choice, I think, but I've not owned one personally.

Been a while since I took a comparo pic...

Honestly not sure why I have the others as the Bugout is the only one I ever carry for about a year and a half now.
That comparison pic is great. 535 stands out to me. I think that’s the way I’ll go.

If you are into traditional knives and plan on using it in an office setting I recommend the Valet. It's recently knocked the Foray out of my pocket as my go-to office knife. Bugout is a great knife but if you're looking for a classy, non-offending office knife, I think the Valet is a better choice.

My advice is goto a store and handle them. Then inspect the one they give you before leaving. Check the blade grind, action, check for up and down and left and right blade play. Check for defects in the materials and screws. Make sure it's centered too. They have pretty bad qc. Also if you order online ask the online retailer to inspect these things for you and give the best example they have. Some won't do this inspection or don't know what to look for. But some will. Heck they are getting alot of money due to map pricing so make them work for that butterfly tax your paying for.

Valet looks good. I think I will take the advice and handle a few before buying, especially if qc can be an issue when ordering direct. Thanks for all the advice.

I’m a bigger guy, so I always felt my 940-2 was kinda my non-threatening “dress slacks” knife. Since I don’t wear business attire at work, it generally never got carried, and I recently sold it. Not that it wasn’t a great knife.

That said, all of the aforementioned options are great. But good luck believing you’re going to end up having just one Benchmade. :)

I agree with Wunderbar, mini grip is a nice, first, not too killer but Benchmade quality knife!

Foray for me! Best advice was to go handle them. If it's worthwhile store you can tell them what you are looking and for what and they will guide you along. I thought I was wanting a 940, but as it turned out the Foray 698 was what felt good and fit well. It is also the shortest handle I can comfortably operate, really liked the 484 but the handle is just too short.

Good luck!
