Well after a few days of walking down to home depot, dragging my things back to my house, almost throwing out my back hauling a desk, and a pretty nasty vice pinch, I have a file jig set up. Now comes the actual knifemaking part, not the file jig making part lol. I was wondering what dimensions do you guys order in? Also seeming as hardening requires very high temperatures, should I risk hardening and heat treating, or send it off to someone?

If its your first knife I'd start small. 3 or 4 inch blade. I'd go with 1/8 x 1 or 1 1/4. If you are going to send it out for HT you can buy a different steel. If u are going to try and HT yourself stick with 1084. You can make yourself a small brick forge or paint can forge. Works good for 1084
