Answer to this is, it's a crap shoot. I'd be right in line with people saying, "Aww, go ahead and take it in your bags!" if I hadn't lost my knife. There is no standard policy you can be sure of here. Get used to it. Ineffective bureaucracies are always arbitrary. You'll probably be fine with the sebenza. But, if you aren't, you'll be paranoid about traveling security for the rest of your days. And honestly, do you need that extra persecution complex?
