Advice on username change?

I'm getting a knifemaker membership finally, but I need to change my username. I see that it can be done for a nominal service charge, but I was wondering if it can be done just as part of the subscription process. Not trying to be a cheapass or anything, but the reason I have not thus far become a paying member is the lack of $45 to spare. I really don't even have that now, but hey, it's my birthday on the 7th and it's acceptable for once to spend it. Just makes it a little more painful, the extra 10$ hit to the wallet. If that's what it takes, I guess I gotta, just wondering if I can get around it. Anyway, thanks for reading this, any help is appreciated.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I just happen to spend most of my time in this area and I like familiar faces. (Avatars?)

The only way that I know is to just re-register as a new user with the name you want, then when you have the funds, just upgrade that username.

Vorpal,
I can tell you this. If you upgrade your current subscription it will cost $10. I wanted to get a upgraded subscription and save the $10 but it kept recognizing my comuter by my username even after logging out so eventually I just upgraded and then paid the $10 for the name change.

Good luck with it. If you get it to work pass the word

Yep Josh, I tried but it recognises me through my e-mail address. I think I will just subscribe now and change my username next week.

The way to fix this is to clear and delete your cookies and history. You will have to log back in to everywhere else too. but it will cuase BF to not recognise you.

at the top of your IE browser, click on tools, Internet Options, and then click on the appropriate buttons to wipe those out

For Firefox users just go to "Tools" / Clear Private Data, or hit Cntrl Shift Delete.

Vorpal,

I just upgraded my membership to "Platinum", and don't recall changeing my user-name....still bobbywett. Is there something I might have missed. As you can see from my profile, I was able to upload an Avatar and blog html. I have not adjusted or deleted any cookies on my computer, and still everything is working (search capabilities, page set-up, profile customizing, etc...) I do have Firefox and I also use a Mac instead of PC, not sure if this is enabling me to have an easier transition?

I'm pretty sure he *wants* to change his username, which is not normally part of the upgrade package. All the rest were ways to create a new account from scratch (with the name he wanted) without the current one interfering.

Thanks Bob, Bob. Thanks, Jason - I probably would have done that had I thought of it (or waited for you to say something) but I'm just impatient sometimes.

1) The best place to ask about Bladeforums policy is Service & Support. I would move this thread there but since it's so long already, you're better off starting a new one. Spark himself handles these changes, rather than the moderators.

2) Upgrading membership and a new username are two separated functions. Best not to just abandon the old name and re-register under a new one unless you don't mind losing your old post count and PMs -- and membership level. :)
