I apologize for creating a post in the general forum, but I searched around and can't seem to find an answer to the best way to find a specific knife or if my "wanted" post os actually active in the classified section since I am not yet a paying member.
I have been looking for a Ferrum Forge Stinger in SM-100 (or is it officially SM100 without the dash?). I hope that down the road I can put together a sprint run or convince Mass(drop) to put this on the map.
Without being a member, I am not sure if my "wanted" post is visible, and I thought that some of you experts might be able to point me in the right direction for finding what I consider my "grail" knife. I have added my name to some of the big knife dealers mailing lists in the "alert when in stock" options, added a search to a couple big auction sites, and joined some Facebook groups.
I also contacted some custom knife makers that have worked with SM-100 in the past hoping I could make something happen that way.
If anyone has other ideas, could you offer advice? I think this would be helpful not only for my personal agenda, but in general what are some of your tips and tricks to finding rare knives?
In a few years I am going to retire my my life as a teacher and would like to take up metallurgy as a second career. I am particularly interested in SM-100 as I believe that with some refinement and/or extreme quality control, it may be an under-utilized material. As someone who enjoys surf fishing and other outdoor activities, as well as the aesthetic possibilities that titanium offers in terms of anodizing, I think there is a niche market for knives in this metal. If someone were willing to make a hobby out of figuring out a way to mass produce it to very high standards I think it would at least be a viable alternative to H1.
The particular district I work for as a teacher involves some extraordinary circumstances in terms of staffing and facilities that provide a unique opportunity for me to explore this not just as a fantasy.
So I guess my question is twofold- what secret sips/tricks would you be willing to offer up to find a rare piece, and second do you think that SM-100 would have a bright future if someone were willing to devote themselves to bringing it to the masses?
As always, I appreciate this community and your time!
