Advice on When to Re-list a "For Sale" Knife

I did a quick search and didn't find a thread already addressing this (although there's probably one out there somewhere)...

I put a knife up for sale and got a PM that said "I'll take it, please send paypal info". I replied immediately through PM and email, and then followed up with another PM this morning. It's been about 24 hours since he asked for PP info and I haven't gotten any kind of reply. I've got other potential takers, so just wondering how long of a wait is courteous before relisting?
 
E-mail the person and politely give him or her 24 hours to respond. If you hear no response, put it back up for sale. Any person can get tied up with non-knife related business, but if they cannot respond promptly after a courtesy e-mail, then you should not waste your time that person. If a person cannot reply after 48 hours, they should not have said they'd take the knife. Just my opinion.
 
I actually had a deal like that and it was my fault. I went to paypal and forgot to scroll down and hit SEND MONEY. Thought I'd sent it and even emailed him and pasted the payment info. Luckily the seller replied and said he hadn't got the payment. Thank goodness I keep a pretty good check on my email.

I agree with Suicy, give him another 24 hours.
 
for me 48hrs or a little more-sometimes snit happens and people cant get to the puter for a few days
 
There are many variables and "what-if's" in dealing with items for sale and or trade. For me, much rides on or depends on the person wanting the knife/knives.

Waiting 48-hours is an excellent rule of thumb.

Weekends are the only problem with the 48 hr. rule, if and email was sent by him from work on a Thursday and his only computer access was from work, (which for some people, is their only access) he wouldn't know what happened till Monday.

But if his only access was from work it would have been nice to know that so you could account for the additional time.

The reality though is, you snooze, you lose, if he wanted it bad enough he would make sure you knew what was going on.

Personally depending on my money situation determines how long a grace period I'll give, I sold an old Case Penknife to a guy in Texas and he was havin' some serious money issues, I waited a couple of weeks for him to reply.

He did tell me though that he would be hard to contact for a while and he really wanted te knife.

I was able to wait, I knew if he didn't send me money I could still sell the knife quickly and I was in no rush, BTW turns out he was in jail, somethin' about a bench warrant for unpaid tickets.

Poo-poo happens, believe me I know, the question is can you afford to be patient?

If not, relist the knife.

I've had a period of almost a week that has gone where I could not get time to log on and respond, either due to business travel, or family or personal medical issues.

What if the buyers child, spouse, or other family member got hit by a car? You'd expect them to say "um,wait, I have to go e-mail someone..."

I have seen on here people who give just a few hours and expect a reply, backing out when they don't get their Veruca...

Depending on your patience level, send them an e-mail giving some deadline, maybe a few days or a week out, and explain nothing personal, but at that time you will relist.

Well, I offered the knife to the next guy in line. It's been 4 days now since the first guy said he'd take it and asked me for my paypal info. That should be enough. I'm not gonna hold it against the guy as maybe he had something come up, but I think I gave him a fair shake...
 
You have more patience than I. Posting "I'll take it" is an obligation to the seller to stop the sale. At that point the seller loses other potential buyers. If the buyer cannot come back in time it's time to move onward. (My rule would be 48 hours of the sent email, regardless of ***t happening.)

I don't have much tolerance for sloppy communications. If ***t happens, that's too bad, that's bad luck on your part--twice. Time's up.
