Advice please: Best watch for up to 600$

I have a Swiss Army Titanium (brushed steel look)... it is very light weight, and rugged (my requirements)

I have two Stowa watches, they are simply awsome ( and underpriced  )

Stowa Fliger (Airman) - bought ~ 1 month ago (waiting in box for new owner, to small for my wrist)

Personally I would go for something, with a high finish and quality, but out of the ordinary. Eddie Platts makes his own tribute custom watches, based on high quality Swiss autos.
For example: Speedbird 1903 Automatic Chronograph Limited Edition - Model PRS-12

I was fortunate enough to get no. 17 (of 50) of the Limited Edition Lady Speedbirds, for my girl friend - and I can assure that his watches are as beautiful as they are special.

I have the citizen titanium dive watch with eco drive. It is an awesome watch, took a minute to set but once you set it you never have to set it again(unless you change time zones). It is super light. I don't wear it for work because I prefer my timex ironman. Not very dressy but I like the extra functions. Plus if it gets broke or lost I can replace it pretty cheap.

Have you looked at titanium Citizen Ec-drives? They are some great watches in your price range.

At just under $600, you might want to check out www.specialopswatch.com.
These watches were formerly sold only to the military and police forces.

There are several models including one that recharges overnight on a stand for about month's running with daily use of it's flashlight-like LEDs.

The watches look great and are made to be rugged.

Those watches look good but so does some of Dark Ops line. Most operator types are wearing G-shocks (cheap and durable). The light seems kind of gimmicky but it may actually have some value (James Bond comes to mind). ;)

Check ouy the Tissot T-touch. I have one 3 years now. All stainless. Very rugged and styish. Buy one from a good jeweler and get batts, cleaning, etc free for life.

My first set of batts last 2+ years. It has a low power alert when you are getting withing a month or so of power left.

I think that overall a quartz battery powered (from many different makers) or a quartz Eco-Drive (only from Citizen) is going to be more "tough" than any automatic watch...and more accurate.
And Citizen has some very nice looking Eco-Drives that will go well with a suit or with casual clothing.
And you never need to change a battery so long as you expose them to light occassionally.

Having said that....

Automatic watches are just plain out cool!
But most of them are rather expensive (of course that's relative to your income).
There are a few affordable autos that are still really nice:
Seiko
Hamilton
Swiss Army (Victorinox)

Good luck,
Allen

Yeah. You you've got a point there. Alot of times a product looks really good and has a gimmick to it but the overall quality may not be there. 'Let the buyer beware'.

I don't own a Special Ops watch but they look great and have interesting features (gimmicks?). Yes Casio G-Shocks are reliable and durable; Possibly the best watch, for the money.

Tissot line is really worth checking out. I too have a T-Touch and love it, but keep in mind it's not water friendly. But their entire line is pretty cool.

My Tissot is very water friendly to 300 feet.

The only isue with water is you are not supposed to us ethe touch screen while under water, which you wouldn't really do anyhow.

I wear mine in Hawaii in the pool, ocean, etc with no troubles.

SIFU1A,
I would jump on a Rolex for even $1000 never mind under $600. I have always wanted a Submariner but prices have been well beyond what I would spend on a watch for many years now!

Those eco-drives are nice. I prefer a watch without needing batteries if an accurate one is available.

Quote: " Another feature is that it is gov't/military issued is it must be of high quality."

the two don't necessarily go together.

Example: my carrying an M16 in Vietnam. can anyone say Jammomatic?

Guys, thanks for the great response first of all :)

Second, I got my watch today :D

I first wanted a watch that can be both dress and heavy duty. But found those are very expensive. The heavy duty ones that are affordable are too bulky and rugged for dress or office.

So i went for a dress watch. Will probably get a tough ones when i have some money

Here it is the Tissot TXL Tablo white dila, Black roman numerals SS bracelet - $300;) retail . Tell me, What do you honestly think of it?
