advice please.

Don't take it personally. Anyone with common sense knew that you were'nt out to offend, it's just that the internet and more specifically forums like this bring public communication to a new level, and unfortunately everybody gets to express themselves. ;)

Without pics, I do not understand the problem. Originally, it sounded like a heat-treat-related warp/cant to the blade that slipped through QC. Someone else above made it sound like an edge-grind issue (not a bevel/grind issue), which, if true, can indeed be sharpened out.

If it's an edge-grind issue and you're not a proficient sharpener, send her back. If it's a bevel/blade-shaping or warping issue, there's nothing you can do about it, so send it back. CRK will work with you either way. They do not stand out in a sea of knives for no good reason.

And sorry, but the Sebenza is not just a production knife. :)

now im very interested, can you snap a pic and let us see? This thread would have been beter from the start with a pic.

Professor.

Please forgive my ignorance, but can you tell me (just in main lines) how a Sebenza in manufactured?
Just curious.

I know these are some of the best knives.....,no..,the best knives I've ever owned, and even though I'm aware that there is some "hand work" involved in the production (I know the blades are being hand grinded and fitted to the lock-bar),what more labour is involved in making these fantastic knives??

Also...,I'm wondering (just in general) what makes a knife a custom or a semi custom?
(I guess production means that no human hand ever touched the knife?!?)

Thanks a lot!!!

The custom versus production thing has been done to death. Basically, a custom is produced by one person and a production knife would be if he has people working for him, doing the work under his or her direction. The line between the two is very undefined. At one end you have the large production companies like Syderco, Benchmade and Buck that have large factories that can produce knives with little hand finishing and can pump out thousands of knives a day and at the other you have CRK that is a small facility that produces knives with way more than a little hand work that produce only a few knives a day. I could go on and on but I have to pack and leave for the Vegas knife show. The point is that the Sebenza has a lot of hand work and requires a lot of skill to make and the custom/production issue is a personal choice and opinion. My opinion is that if you like a knife and it works well for you, then go for it. ;) :p

Cool!!!
thanks Scott Dog!
Didn't know CRK only produces a few knives a day,but that does make it kinda special indeed!!!

Hope you have a great time in Vegas!!!

Simply put - your satisfaction is paramount at CRK. Don't sell yourself short by not letting them inspect / repair / make a recommendation. WHATEVER they say or do - you will feel better.

It sounds like you put it on an optical comparitor to find a flaw that small and insugnificant. My MM Classic looks dead center to me but I bet if you looked at it you would find of off by a cm or so.

CRK are good people and do have the best customer service I have ever delt with. If the knife fullfills it function, has a blade shape you like, and centers the way you like on the locking bar then it sounds like you have a very good knife to me and I have been a VERY CRITICAL nuclear inspector and aircraft inspector and small imperfections that will not hinder the performance of the product are not generally changed just for "eye butter". No doubt you will find something else to be upset about if you send it back again.

Enjoy your knife and don't worry about a few cm's off center. For that matter it might not be the blade but maybe one of the handles is just a red c... hair thicker then the other giving the allusion of the blade being off center.

DavidH,
Yeah you are right there. Being 65yrs old its still confusing when it comes to the metric system even though we have been officially on it for quite some years now. But at least there is no doubt about a "red c... hair" ;)

Thanks again for the correction.
Ciao

red .. hair, That's a universal measurement, if un PC, if there ever was one.
