Advice Wanted on Unsatisfactory Kershaw Launches

I wouldn't handle something like this with e mail.
Call them and explain your issues.......calmly and like a human.
I find speaking with someone gets better results.

That's true. Just haven't had time during their business hours yet.

My Dad said he could live with the knives' shortcomings (we got identical knives). After opening/closing mine a good bit the button is much smoother and it only seems to fail to lock when I hold it a certain way. Blade has a little play in it, but oh well. Haven't left a review yet but I doubt I'll be rushing to buy another Kershaw auto. If I didn't like the knife so much I would have sent it back (duh statement right?). I think I have a thing for autos now though.

If you are going to be looking for a different auto, check out Pro Tech Jared!!
Amazing knives!!

I moved on.

Same. After three lauches in a row with lock bounce, I swore of out-the-side autos not made by ProTech or RatWorx.

Also, later, out-the-side autos in general, but, that was more of a preference-based decision than a quality one. The Protech TR4 is still one of the best knives I’ve ever had, tied with the MRX Chain Drive.

Love my MRX..cannot say enough about it. Protech is awesome too.
The only Launch I currently own is the 7. I have had ZERO isuues with it.

I really want to get the full sized MRX clip point but they're a little too pricey at the moment. I'm sure I'll weasel my way into one eventually because I think they're worth it. It's just hard to step over two or three Protech autos to buy one.

I finally broke down and called Kershaw for a new spring and button lock for my Launch, and after just sitting there for longer than I'd care to admit, I got around to swapping the spring and lock, and I now have absolutely no bounce. The bouceb seems to actually originate from opening spring needing to be a little stronger. With a new, higher tension spring in there's no bounce.

I found the problem you're having, blade not locking up consistently, is due to the spring not being engaged for the entire length of travel. There is only tension on the blade for half of the travel.

Is this something Kershaw eventually addressed, and just older Launches have this behavior? Or is it on a knife-by-knife basis? I'd think it would be odd for the spring having tension to be so variable as a QC thing. I recently bought a Launch 1, in spite of a lot of reviews about them failing to lock up (and knowing shipping an auto back for service would be a pain). Mine has spring tension through the entire rotation of the blade. If I unlock it and close the blade just the tiniest bit, it is not possible to get it to hang up unlocked. It will always open back up and lock.
