Yep, that pen knife looks good! Any info on price, availability, etc.
It's in the air as we speak and Uncle Bill will set the price when it gets here. It's a limited production, so there won't be many available, and they will probably go quickly.

Don't quote me on it Pen, but I think Uncle already set the price at 100 dollars for the "Pen Knife". That's a hundred bucks I truly look forward to spending:)
As far as a decent Kabar sized outdoor knife that's got excellent steel, a comfortable handle, and won't break the bank, my vote would be for a Leuku knife. Ragweed forge sells Finnish Leukus in carbon or stainless steel. I've never owned a Leuku by Rosselli, but I've heard they're stout, sharp, knives too. They're probably a bit pricier though.

no need to go around quotin' nobody... ;)

Sarge = you are correct. I think, however, that it will ultimately depend on what they're like when they get here. I'm not sure which kami(s) created the knives, and they might not have been too excited about making such a "little knife". I would gladly pay extra if it turns out to be well-constructed, finished and polished at a high standard.

here are some pictures of leuku knives.

Sarge = I'm currently building one myself.

hopefully I'll end up with one of these someday:
Combination Leuku and fillet knife

That's a fun project in itself Dan. Are you using a Swedish blade (KJ Eriksson), or a Finnish blade (Lauri)? I made up one of the Swedes a while back for Senior Airman Wheeler to give his dad for a birthday present. Turned out really nice, Axis deer antler handle with a 1/4" thick brass spacer at the blade/handle joint, and the pommel capped in cast pewter Celtic knotwork. Too pretty for my down and dirty knife tastes, but Wheels said his dad loved it.
Leukus are kind of small/light compared to even a small khukuri, but they do make good camp/hunting knives.

A Laplander blade will all the trimmings...

I'll be sure to post pics when I'm done. I'm thinking about using a solid section of reindeer for the handle with steel at both ends. Got any recommendations? (brass, nickel, etc.) or tips?

Oh, and yes, it will be a gift as well.

Also, trying to get a Damascus blade worked in there somehow. Just too expensive for my wallet at this time.

Eventually, I'll do one like this:

Those Leukus are great. I admire you all. I thought about getting a blade from Roselli and mount it, but I know I will probably spoil it. Do you know where can I check some leukus?

Teodoro it may be best if you were to limit your field of expectations a bit to better describe just what it is you're looking for in the way of a knife.

I have to 2nd N2S's advice about the old 225Q's. I purposely set out to get one at one of our two huge gun & knife shows here after I read about them in one of the Knives yearly books.
It may be 1095 steel, but it's 1095 that's 50 years old. It passes the ABS test of chopping a 2X4 in two and still shaveing hair!!!!
I love mine and if I ever get a new sheath made for it it will go back among my top choice of carry!!!!:)
These knives are damned nigh indestructable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right Yvsa. Now I am divided between the Swamp Rat you recomended and the Ontario Quartermaster that I mentioned before. Buying a Leuku is a longlasting dream.

You won't and can't go wrong with the Swamp Rat or Camp Tramp. They may be a little higher in price but they have 10 times the steel with their 52100 with the Busse heat treatment than the Ontario has with 1095 steel!!!!

You might like to take a look at the Benchmade Nimravus at http://www.benchmade.com/detail.asp?model=140 too.

I haven't seen one in the flesh, but I do have 710HS which I would't leave my bed without, let alone the house, as well as a 905 and the are very nice knives (both folding). The M2 blade on the 710HS is particularly good, and I can't help thinking that a fixed blade from the same firm would hve to be pretty nice.

Okie, I can see *HEAPS* of similarities between Swamp Rats and Busse. How do the two match up?

Much Thanks

I belong to an Outdoors club and we organize camps for city kids. When we go camping, I usually carry a big blade (lately a Ka.Bar, but it is now in my father’s hands  ) for heavy tasks, a smaller fixed blade for minor works (Spyderco Bill Moran Drop point, Aitor Botero , Aitor Warrior or a Pukko from Roselli) that I keep very sharp, a skinner from Aitor, a big folder, and a multitool. Axes, saws, entrenching tools, etc are to be shared between all the assistants’ packs, as is the case with all the rest of the common equipment before the trek, so that everyone carries more or less the same weight. The problem is that all common equipment is “shared”, and some kids don’t have blades, and so we handed them ours, so I know that I might not have my AK when I need it.
In one of our last camps, the average was 4.5 knives per individual, and most of the kids where not carring… :D :D

My first recommendation would be to go for the Pen-knife. You can't get any better than with HI, as I'm sure all of us Cantina-dewllers will atest to! :D:D:D
